Utilities & Mobile PLDT Internet Service?

Im wondering does PLDT offer a internet service combined with Cable TV Service in Dumaguete?

I have Fil-Products ADSL which uses PLDT as the Internet Provider and some Taiwanese company to supply TV services. Paid Monthly (Prepaid no Contract) is 2200php for Internet (6Mbps) and 400php per month for the TV service. Apparently Landlines are coming soon... Overall I am happy with the service, although lately the Internet has been a bit hit and miss, but no problems with the TV service excepting all subtitles are in Chinese.

In comparison;
In Australia I had 20Mbps Fibre-Optic Internet and my Pay TV Service was also via the Fibre-Optic line. My TV here has as many channels and less drop outs than I experienced in Oz (for 5600php per month) and I can download much MUCH more overnight on my ADSL here than my Aussie Fibre-Optic Service (at 6000php per month.) So 2600php per month here for a better service compared to 11600php per month back home for one not so great, I am very happy here.

 

I don't know what they did, but while I spent a few months in late 2017 in New York, Smart (PLDT) upgraded their SmartBro pocket WiFi service incredibly. Before I left, I could occasionally get 4 Mbps at my home in Liptong with the SmartBro, and often as slow as 1 Mbps. On returning, I renewed my SmartBro contract (because it's the only option I seem to have out here in the sticks) and they give you a new unit in which to insert your old SIM. Now, I am getting consistent 20-30 Mbps. I doubt it is the new unit they provided; I heard they upgraded their service out here on their tower in Valencia. I am a happy camper! Even with my VPN running, I still get 15 Mbps....enough to stream TV shows from the US without interruption. There is a 15 Gigabyte per month cap on my service (which is the largest they offer) at 999 PHP/month. I watched 5 TV shows last night and it hardly put a dent in my limit.

 

I misspoke. I found out the hard way that a 15 Gb monthly cap is not a lot unless you limit your use to basic web surfing and text-based (emails) use. But the SmartBro is screaming fast where you can get an LTE connection.

 

That is one thing I do not understand (and yet definitely not complaining) whereby PLDT is the Internet Provider for Fil-Products ADSL and there are no Limits imposed. I have downloaded at best 30+ Movies overnight equating to around 25GB's+ so as I was told by Fil-Products; "Sir, Download Limit is; Sky is the Limit!" Might be ADSL versus WiFi as to why the limits are imposed? Mind you my ADSL is 6Mbps so big difference in speeds, but I am sure over a month it adds up to quiet a bit for my downloads.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to use up your 15GB's of Data. In Australia I always went for the largest Data Plan as I use to use up my 500GB limit in a week or 2 online, or availed a totally Unlimited Service due to my heavy downloading. I am thankful I have truly Unlimited here now even at 6Mbps as I can really hit it up when needed and am not penalised in any way.

 

I think the reason for the discrepancy (and it's probably a valid reason) is that the SmartBro from the PLDT affiliate uses the cellular network to make the connections and allowing unlimited usage would probably melt down the cell service. The PLDT "Sky is the limit" uses (I think) their Fibr network of some other hard-wired infrastructure like land-line phone system.

PLDT offers nothing out here in Liptong. All we have is rumors: Somebody says "I saw them laying the cable on your country road," and someone else counters that with "No cable out here, yet." Who knows?

Even if the cable was running past my driveway, unless PLDT connects it to the system, it's of no use to anyone. And as we are all painfully aware: No one here is in any hurry to get anything done at any time.

 

Very True! I waited two and a half years for Fil-Products to lay Cables as both Smart and Globe are totally useless here in Maluay where I am. It will happen, maybe not in our lifetime, but things are happening at Filipino Speed here which the locals are happy with I what I assume. is a "Something is better than nothing" attitude.
