    Good point, but this is a major bank with far more than 10,000 ATM PINs in circulation - perhaps 100 times that number. As people choose their own, I assume every possibility (is 0000 allowed?), is already covered many times. I know that in the UK lottery people think 1,2,3,4,5,6 will win them the jackpot as an only winner, because they see it as an unlikely possibility (except, of course, it is as unlikely as every other combination!), but about 10,000 people choose that number combination per draw.

    In case this is seen as 'off topic' can I point out that once I tried to buy a lottery ticket and it was 'out of stock'*. So, thread topic maintained.

    * Not really.

    The strange thing about this is that a pin can be changed via the ATM when you want to change it, so the out of stock tale really doesn't ring true.

    While I was in Lee Plaza the other week, they had 1 liter cartons of Chicken Broth. Not sure if it is still there, but the beef broth is.

    But how many "new" cards that haven't had their original PIN reset by the customer are in circulation? Yes, customers can pick their own numbers and they can be the same PIN, but perhaps the bank refuses or is incapable of using an identical PIN on the initial issue of the card. It sounds like the bank may be using an outdated debit card system and is pushing the limits of said system.

    I would wager that the bank employee that said the bank ran out of stock of PINs was simply trying to get the customer to move on without revealing that he/she had no idea how these things work. "Out of stock" often means "I have no idea what you are asking or how to respond intelligently."

    I often toy with the idea (sometimes I swear to myself I am going to do it) of getting a silk screen t-shirt vendor to print up some t-shirts with "Sorry, sir... No stock" printed on them. What stops me from doing that are: 1.) I have Filipino friends who say it would be offensive and, 2.) I would never find a vendor with XXL t-shirts.

    I had a similar experience at Citi Hardware. I needed door seal. Same thing-no stock sir. Something told me to look around. I found a whole rack of them. I could barely contain my anger at the kid, but kept quiet. I would not put the manager on employees. They make slave wages, get treated like chattel, and can be fired for any infraction including embarrassing the manager in front of customers. These things happen for all the reasons others posted. I would also include that all employees in grocery and department stores seem to rotate out of their contract. I don’t most are being actually trained. Just told what to do.

    Yep, employees rotate on contracts, some get renewed I imagine. Must be very difficult for a sales person in a hardware store to know the english word for the many, many stocked items in a large store. My assumption of course, is that you were speaking english....yes, no?

    I have found that describing, as best as I possibly can with as simple of English as I can, the item instead of giving the actual name of what I'm looking for helps out a lot. It gives both the salesperson and myself a learning experience to try to figure it out.

    I learned this while trying to find chicken broth at Hypermart that was, unbelievably, "out of stock". Try simplifying that one anymore than the word "broth", absolutely nothing you can say about broth is going to click with someone who doesn't already know what broth is in English. Luckily for me an old Filipina lady overheard us talking and grabbed to the broth cubes that were within arms length of us and handed it to me...and then gave us both a "you are idiots" look and walked away...then it clicked with the sales girl, she perked up and called it by it's trademark name and looked at me like I was the idiot for not knowing that it should be called by it's brand name (which was completely unrelated to the product). :shifty:
