Could...but unlikely. Over a 99% chance he wouldn't. I know you are scared but you, and many others, are seriously overstating how deadly this virus is.

Now it's your turn, go ahead and tell me the death count numbers and tell me how I don't care for human life.

Loss of smell and taste sounds to some almost like a joke. But even temporary, it would involve neurological, even perhaps brain damage.

Its deadly because it is so easily spread and a lot of people, just like you, do not comprehend that you as an infected person can infect another who can be very ill from this, perhaps be in hospital and perhaps die. I'm not scared of dying. I'm over 80 and just want to be around a little longer to enjoy the presence of my 9 year old daughter thank you very much. And as for figures, think about this. Comparing my country, Australia to yours, the USA, had Trump followed the use of masks and social distancing utilised in Australia, the death toll in the USA would be around 10,745, not 201,000 as is at present. (Figures used Australian population 25,000,000, USA 326,000,000, Corona deaths, Australia as of yesterday 16th Sep, 824, the USA, 201,266. 824/25 million X 326 million) That is a lot of dead USA citizens that could now be enjoying their families.

No, I get it. I don't interact or come in close contact with the elderly, gimp and/or sick. I avoid them like they are the plague. If I have been less than a meter from one it is because THEY have broken the social distancing rules and guidelines out of THEIR own ignorance/incompetence/complacency/disregard for their own wellbeing...so if they don't care about their own wellbeing then I certainly am not going to give a crap for them, that is their choice. I wash my hands regularly, social distance and wear a mask when in public. These people at risk are the ones that should be staying home and not coming in contact with anyone. The rest of us have basically zero chance of dying from this. Do I want anyone to die from this? No, of course not. What you seem to suggest is that all these at risk people should be free to go about their lives while the rest of us productive people put our lives on hold. That's not how it has ever been for any other disease and it should not be how it is for this one. Your disability, your problem.

I don't care what my country has or has not done. I don't care what Trump has or has not done. However you giving such a precise death toll on something that didn't happen is 100% speculative. You can't know what would have happened with that level of accuracy. There is no telling what other events would have happened if something in the past was changed. It's a pointless metric. We can look at all kinds of things with hindsight and see what could have been done better. I can't wait to see what hindsight will show us in another year or two.

People do not need governments to utilize common sense. If someone died because they choose to follow their leader instead of science, statistics, and facts maybe they would still be alive, natural selection at work.

Note: I am not referring to the innocent who may have been infected by someone in refusal but the masses in denial.

But they need the leadership to set an example. There will always be the idiots who will follow some other precept like the 911 conspiracy or we never got to the moon or in this case wearing a mask is the governments way of taking control of you. there is no hope for them. As for Rye's comments, I believe I have said enough to him and will not take to task other than to comment that disputing the math is like putting ones head in the sand. My math indicates very simply the reality of what may have happened in the USA if precautions and leadership had been what appears to be the case in my and some other countries.

So could flying, being a politician in the Philippines, standing next to a politician in the Philippines, the flu, heart disease, my smart mouth, or even talking on a cellphone. I would choose all of those risks over being paralyzed by fear. If I catch it and I think the end is coming, I'll come back to this forum and tell you that you were right.

I respect the right of everyone to make personal decisions based on their own risk analysis - with the caveat that it respects the law and the interests of the planet (in which I include the environment and all living things). I know you follow the rules about masks and don't want the elderly near you (!), so I can see why you and people like @eskirvin (who look so young - bonus points please!) feel non-threatened and dislike to see the economy wrecked (as do all of us actually).

But I cannot grasp why you call those who are elderly "scared" - it negates the fact they have simply done their own risk analysis (as you have) and want to be 'cautious'.

Although a 'masker' I always held the position that it is 'horses for courses' and very local and personal decisions should be made in the case of a pandemic - there is no 'one glove fits all'. So, I support the use of PPE but do not support many of the rules, some extremely pointless, which have helped damage economies. But in no way am I "scared" of the virus - I am more scared of you!

I honestly don't know anyone that doesn't fear death. It is the end of all things, completely so for the non-religious. I think @Rye83 means "scared" in the same context I do. I admire anyone's intent to preserve their own life, as long as it doesn't come at the cost of other's lives. Some advocate things that make sense, like staying at home if you are elderly and avoiding potential contact, whereas others advocate economic and societal collapse in favor of their own self interest. You (cautious people) can be perfectly safe if you take measures to prevent contacting the infected, on your own. There's no need to destroy the lives of others to save your own.
