Not sure if this is in the right place, but here goes, I'll start a new thread.

I was on the Beach in Dgte once and just taking in the views etc walking along the beach, i walked past 2 Pinoys with a sack and they were filling the sack up with sand from the beach. i wondered what they were doing, I walked on a bit and turned back to see the 2 guys take it up to the Beach front house, a very nice house, and i stoped and watched as they went up the steps and went into the house and they emptied the sack of sand on the floor. (it was like a covered patio area ) they then proceeded to mix up cement!! obviously to use it there and then. I was horrified!!

I am no master builder, but I know that you never use beach sand to build with, as it has not been washed and processed for building. even if Bricks or blocks are soaked in seawater, they are rendered useless for building, you can never wash the salt out of them.

So then I got to thinking....what if the whole house was built with beach sand!! and whats more did the owners of the house know of what was going on? I suppose only time will tell.

What you write is so much true !! Only specific types of sand can be used mainly for building it is riversand. Atleast where I come from which you all know is the EU . But trust me when I say that they even use a grinder for corals to make a kind of cement out of it .That suits some practical purpose , but then again it is abuse of the reef ,right ?
Saudi Arabia is buying sand in the Netherlands for their constructionworks as their own dessert sand though plentyful is not suitable for the job. Thanks for letting us know !!!

using beach sand for contrruction is commonplace - liloan santander used to have a wide beach but it was taken by the ex-mayor to build sanayon resort 15 years ago. its only now starting to come back - we report sand thieves when we see them - the police come quick when we call - if they do they know they get a couple hundred peso from us - it's the way things work here

Earlmj, thanks for your intelligent reply, unlike some here. you can use beach sand for building, here where I live a there is a big sandworks that takes from sand dunes along the coast, it is regulated so they do not spoil the dunes. BUT the sand is processed, I do not know about this procedure but can say that there is a lot of equipment used to render it fit for building.

Cebudiver ; I was not pointing out the theft aspect of the beach sand so much as to point out that if you build a house with this material it will not last, it will crumble, fall down, wash away or whatever.

Like I said I am no builder but do know that using this is no good.

Personally, I would never buy a beach front property, as living right next to the sea, I am always wary of weather, tides, winds, and the changing environment. better to put some land in between you and the sea preferable a bit of altitude also, no doubt some people here will "SCOFF" at my points on this subject also, let them stay ignorant then.

WHY WOULD I POST ABOUT THIS INCIDENT HERE?? MAYBE TO BE BRING IT TO MEMBERS ATTENTION, LIKE.. YOU KNOW ...TO HELP?? LOL! Oh no! I think I am causing trouble!! you nasty person PhilT d*mn you to hell!! LOL terrible person that I am!

Wow , isn,t it something amazing our sweet and civilazed way of conversations. Getting back to the sand , and as I wonder if that is upon the sand or just six feet under..
Like those from Saudi-Arabia.. They do not only buy their construction sand in my former homecountry the Netherlands but also a whole pile of .......
bull sh*t ! Now that my friends is a fact as well . No bullshit !!. And then again ,yes bull sh*t. Becoz... their own sh*t (their bulls) is not suitable for bio agriculture purpose.. Simply it does not contains the right values for the crobs to grow. But how nice to see and know that my country is one of the formost suppliers of bull sh*t worldwide . Amazing , isn,t it .. O , I am so proud that I now live in the philippines .. Wala cow dito !!!
