Recently there have been some updates and yeah, there always are but this new (reading list) that appears in the top right of your tool bar may not be your thing for eg:

I for one disabled it. Thought I would post a URL that allows you to have more control over Chrome and custom it more. Chrome will suggest not to make changes but I will say, think before you disable something. For me I always am here adjusting the crap they always dump on my systems. Cheers!

This URL goes directly to your personnel Chrome Browser Controls. Take a Boo!!! Just copy and paste in your Chrome Browser for those that use Chrome.

I would suggest to use Firefox instead of Chrome in the first place. Comes with a lot of useful features that actually protect your privacy if that’s something you care for.

Agree with Yah on that. Do know that the URL I posted allows you to tone Chrome down to the level of any browser out there, other than (Start Page Browser) Start page- Browser is real private once set up, but is so beginners stage when searching for things. No matter what, it is all caught in some way or another. Once your on the Net, it's a global Soccer field.

Yes, I also notice this reading list. Was wondering what's this! Well, I did not make use of it., so if just ignoring can it do any harm?

If you use Chrome, Google will know everything (probably including your blood sugar level and whether you got laid last night), no matter what settings you tweak.

If you care at all about privacy, use either Firefox or Brave (or Tor if you're serious), and only log into anything Googlish or Facebookish using a private browsing window. Better still, don't have a Google or Facebook account (and that includes Whatsapp and Instagram).

On a mac, a link in a gmail to an mp4 in someone else's google drive will NOT play. If i click the same link in a gmail opened in safari, plays with no problem. Google is becoming as arrogant as zuckbook. Anybody use another email provider that is as GOOD as google ???

It slows down your start up minutely and applies it seems, more than 1 cookie..... I'd disable it. Many updates are evasive in what they can actually up front claim to provide.

Proton email is the best alternative if not better. It clearly stands as more secure. I have a few accounts there and have always liked it better. My online banking for eg. Switzerland owned, and you know how that stands.
As far as a link won't play...... right click and see the alternatives to open it. If none resolve this... download Canon Zoombrowser and alway use that. Download from a a good Ref: site only. I love my Zoombrowser over about any other.

The 5 eyes, 9 eyes and now the 11 eyes mine data 24-7 to recognize each punch of a key on a device with out even hitting ENTER KEY!! Firefox uses Google, a totally-no-privacy-at-all search engine, as default because they get money from them. They have been sold off falsely as any better. More back doors than a French Hooker House.

Brave is also built on top of the same chromium-based open source software.
Tor Browser is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The one thing about Tor Browser is that it makes use of Firefox<<<<<<

It's like Coca Cola share-holders also back Pepsi as they are part owners also. To Capture a Market... If you own your own blanketed competition, you win! If it travels through the AIR.... it CAN and IS..... and WILL be caught.. if the developing Techies want so or are ordered to do so by over reaching Terrorists in Big-Brother clothing's.

That's why I created this thread. these are Chrome settings that are back-door one-0-one to control more so than most others what goes on behind that purrrdy colored LatTop startup page.

Agree with using Firefox/Brave/Tor but am not sure a private window is as useful as many think it is (from the name) - it allows tracking of other websites and is primarily used to delete traces of internet use (e.g. cookies and browsing history are deleted when a private window is closed). I think your ISP still knows where you are visiting - that is where VPN comes in. I might be wrong - so over to the experts.

But I do know one thing for sure - nothing you do on any computer is guaranteed safe.
