Rumor has it there's a Jap Zero about 200 feet down, mostly covered in silt somewhere off the runway. Any divers ever seen it?

Supposed to be Jap defensive pill boxes somewhere on Dgte airport property too..

That would be an excellent find. Unforyunately I'm not a diver....actually, I can't even swim, so the chances of me verifying the claim not likely to happen unless someone gives me a walkie talkie and a pair of cement shoes...Then I'll report what I see. Might be a bit too extreme though lol

There are entrenchments up in the hills of Valencia. Anything's possible as DGTE was a pretty significant battle zone. Apparently the Americans landed at Looc which is basically the town peer. The land that the runway sits on looks reclaimed to me. That's getting pretty deep and dark and why would anybody be diving that deep there ? Did you have any more bits to the story ?

Theres a pillbox next to the tarmac, yes, but in my knowledgeable and accurate o-pin, any plane wreckage would long ago have rotted away or would be rendered unrecognizable by coral encrustation.

But Melvin does indeed know the location of a Japanese plane on a jungle cliffside back behind PNOC, though that one is also in a very deteriorated condition.

    Zero

Next time I come over for a visit, I would like to meet up with some of the board members who know where old WWII artifacts, planes, pillboxes, etc. may have been laying for the last 60 plus years.

    thanks

There's a lot of stuff up in Valencia including a shrine to the Japanese war dead. There's a "museum" on the way up there that is crammed with artifacts. Ask around when you arrive. If you don't connect, send me a PM and I'll set you up with an affordable tour guide.

Welll.....If its beneath coral depth, than its most likely covered with sand and silt. Even things as big as barges and boats from the war have a tendency to disappear in bottom goop under the water here.

You'd have to know exactly where it was to be able to find it at deep depth anyway, IMHO its a fantasy thinking you're going to do 45m+ dives off the end of the runway and find the wreckage of a something as small as a fighter plane.

Would be a waste of time and air.

Are you sure whomever got the story rolling said that there was "A zero" at the end of the runway or did they just say "zero" ?
