    G'day Dumites

As there are many retired people among the foreigners living in and around Dumaguette, some of you guys most know about the availabilitiy of various medicines and treatments for Arthur-eye-test.................

No, i don't have a problem, but my Father-in-Law's Dad does (Asawa's Lolo).

Lolo lives way up in the mountains and i have never seen him because he cant travel.

His asawa, Lola, made it to my Father-in-Law's afternoon B'day party last year by leaving home @ 4am.

We want to know about the availability of various Arthritis medicines/treatments in Dumi/Bais so rellies can get some to him when we send some moolah

NUTSHELL = Whats available? From where? & How much?

(Oh, and what works & what don't, in that climate, if u know)

    Creams, pills, whatever, etc

    T.I.A.

Well there's a variety of herbal and folk-medicine recipes to treat arthritis that are known to the people in the mountainous areas here. See what the local herbalist recommends.

There are two types of arthritis: Osteoarthritis which is a deterioration of the cartilage and overgrowth of bone due to "wear and tear", and Rheumatoid which is the inflammation of a joint's connective tissues that can lead to the destruction of the articular cartilage.
He 'probably' has the the wear and tear arthritis. Not a whole lot that can be done if that is the case. Usually bone spurs will start in finger joints and other joints and vertebrae. I believe it is hereditary. I have this and take a pain pill that apparently does not impact the liver or kidneys, but is expensive. Not sure what mountain medicines you might find. My in-laws are from the mountains had no suggested cure to offer.

Hi there, just a line from a fellow osti-arthritis sufferer. In my 73 years i have had, three elbow's,one full knee replacement, one total hip replacement, and now waiting for a hip replacement (revision),the old one has lasted 17 and half years. Yes it is heredity.and made worse by cold and damp weather. When i visit Duma, the pain is 80 % better,as i suffer pain in my hands shoulders etc. I find the pain killers only slightly reduce the pain when i am in the UK. None of the wife's large family have any Knowledge of Arthritis and we never see any people hobbling about on sticks. We were going to move to Duma this year, but now having to wait for my hip replacement it may be next year. the only advice apart from total replacements, not affordable or possible in Duma. is to keep moving and be as active as you can be, or you will seize up permanently. Stilo

There are lots of medicines available here for pain relief and treatment but at around 70 peso's a day its not cheap. My ankle seized up and my doctor gave me some pills which aren't FDA approved but are approved in Canada, Europe and most of South America. 2 hours after the first pill i can walk again with very little pain, swelling has gone down considerably. From the information i have they kick in properly after 4 hours so at least tonight i will be able to sleep properly.
