Rhoody, my point is not the need but the odds of getting the folks I mentioned or you mentioned to sign up for a Toastmasters program are slim. But I like your idea of making the suggestion to the local business people to join and maybe a few expats would tag along.

A while back I had to give a presentation to a large management group and I was nervous about it. A girl that worked for me was a member of Toastmasters and she said she learned a way to relax was to first look at the audience and pretend they are all naked, not sure I would want to do that here. lol

thats the 101 each stage performer learns. works 100%, special on charity-events in certain clubs in Luzon

having said that, a speech at the foreign embassy in dumaguete and the field office of it might result in throwing up though and instant eye bleeding.

Anyway, if the OP gets the chapter somehow together I probably join

Thanks Rhoody for your positive comments. I'll continue to pursue this plan to establish a Toastmasters' Club in Dumaguete. There will be a preparatory process normally followed to insure success. As you have mentioned, this should appeal to business persons, professionals, and anyone who wants to improve on their public speaking and leadership skills. The training that Toastmasters give worked for me and for thousands of others.

How about the younger generation around here. Could not the older and wiser characters (am I being too kind :D) be of value in teaching kids just out of school, about to go into college, how to speak publicly. After all, using the Toastmasters format to describe and share pearls of wisdom in a humorous way is a GREAT way of educating kids and letting them share back .. maybe we will learn from them as well ..

It would be a HUGE confidence booster for them and may help to really kickstart your idea and project.

I do not know if Toastmasters is set up for this style of interaction or what the minimum ages are, but if you do anything like this, I'm IN! (but understanding of an Aussie Accent is required :D)

Now for the wives, we could start a "TongitMasters" ouch ..

    Cheers

I belonged to toastmasters going back 15 years ago. GREAT organization and once you've heard a professional taostmasters gold or DTM public speaker, you realize that it's not just someoe standing in front of you talking. It's a public presentation that's captivating and like nothing you've ever heard...a mastery of langauge and story

There used to be a Toastmasters' Club of Dumaguete years ago and it was composed mostly of heads of offices who wanted to improve on their speaking skills. However, after some time, when the active members had retired from their posts, I stopped hearing about the club. It is one club leaders would want to be a member of but I think part of the reason why it died is because of its membership fee which was in dollars and not a lot of people can afford this. I would like to see this club revived here though.

Toastmasters sounds like something I would be interested in. I could definitely use some pointers when it comes to public speaking.

As long as those membership fees are acceptable-
