Robinsons Land to build 30 budget hotels in 5 years

MANILA, Philippines - Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC), the property development arm of the Gokongwei Group, is aiming to build at least 30 budget hotels across the country over the next five years to meet the growing demand for affordable accommodation, particularly by local tourists.

At the same time, RLC president Frederick Go announced that the hotel brand, Go Hotels, is now open for franchising, pointing out that they have already received inquiries from several interested parties. One businessman, whom Go refused to identify, is already looking at five sites for his planned foray into the value hotels business.

Go said since the soft opening of Go Hotels in its pilot site at the Robinsons Pioneer Cybergate complex in Mandaluyong City, the hotel has been registering an occupancy rate of more than 90 percent.

“We’re very confident about this development plan that we intend to take this throughout the country. There is huge demand for proper accomodation and we intend to open branches in every city of the country,” Go said.

The next Go Hotels will rise in Bacolod and Dumaguete (both in 2011). Programmed for opening in 2012 are hotels in Palawan, Iloilo, Cebu and Tacloban. New sites for 2013 are Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Zamboanga, Batanes and Gen. Santos.

Built on the lot of the old Robinsons Apartelle, Go Hotel Pioneer offers 225 no-frills rooms with flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi connection targeted for budget-conscious travelers. Patterned after sister company Cebu Pacific’s novel pricing scheme where early birds get the lowest rate, Go Hotels is offering accommodations for as low as P388 a night. Regular room rates start at P1,888 per night.

Go said they intend to build Go Hotels in areas where RLC has a shopping center. As of end-March this year, RLC had a mall network of 29 with a gross leasable area of 811,000 square meters.

Go Hotels is the fifth hotel property of RLC after the 285-room Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, 263-room Holiday Inn Galleria Manila, 210-room Cebu Midtown Hotel and the 108-room Summit Ridge Hotel Tagaytay.

In the fiscal year ending September 2009, RLC’s hotel division registered revenues of P1.04 billion or about 10 percent of total revenues.

Holiday Inn Galleria Manila and Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila posted occupancy rates of 77 percent and 72 percent, respectively, despite the global economic slowdown that has cut holiday travel.

    90+% Occupancy?

:D Maybe in manila but I would doubt in Dumaguete, Budget Hotels will always do well but usually no real catering facilities. I would go with 70/75% occupancy and I feel that could be overstating. Having said that it is nice to hear about some real enterprise thoughts. Maybe there is a need for some new Restos, They all have to eat!

Any Hotel worldwide would be way more than happy about 70% occupancy over a year, no matter if backpackers or 5-star.

Are you not aware that hotel industry in the city is booming .. If you try to visit that hotel in front of the Dumaguete Fire station, Under Contraction right beside Lee Super Plaza is also a hotel....and not only that...If you happen to pass by the Veterans Avenue right beside UnionBank that is also a hotel...

You know why all these happen to a small place like Dumaguete City?..it is because Negros Oriental is now on the top 10 as the best tourist destination in the country....

If it is happening in Manila same thing will also happen here.... +90% occupancy or more......

    Tourists!

:( Lets see how many Tourists we can get here with Only 2 Flights a Day From the Big Place, A somewhat unstable ferry Service with no proper connections to Dgte. There is not enough infrastructure just yet, I will stay with my 70/75%. I like your enthusiasm Though! We Oldies have seen them come and see them Go. I Hope you are right and I am wrong but I am just not sure the End Result will be as thought. We certainly could do with the Tourism Sector Boost, A lot more needs to be Done other that just keep Opening Hotels, You have to get the Tourists here first.

I'm a frequent flyer on Cebu Pacific and really appreciate their seat sale offerings. That RLC intends to apply the same concept to hotel room pricing is most welcome news.

Annabelle and I are booked at the GO Hotel for a trip to Manila in December. The Go Hotel URL for information and booking is

    gohotels.ph | A place for every Juan!

Our room rate was PP 888/night plus VAT. The location @ EDSA and Pioneer is familiar to us from long patronage of the New Horizon Hotel just across the highway. Breakfast is not yet available. I'm sure we will not starve.

The booking and payment engine is pretty sluggish. We wre eventually able to make it work. I was surprised that the connection did NOT timeout as I waited overnight. I was able to complete the transaction a few minutes ago.

Now if Cebu Pacific can come up with a seat sale to match our chosen trave dates, we will be extremely pleased.
