I would like to see some decent healthy options open up that are ran by local small businesses. Nothing worse than Americanized fast food franchises IMO. Garbage food that is horrible for your health and well-being and does nothing for the average person except making sure diabetes is in their near future.

..Note the outline of the runway in red, exactly north south... Pic taken in the Engineers office, Bacong Municipal Hall.
At 76, i doubt i'll be around when the first plane lands (i was about to say "takes off," but then it occurred to me that it's gotta git here first...

    Taken off of fb.

Apparently, this can happen in the near future.

Initial talks between Dumaguete City Mayor Ipe Remollo and Mr. Hans Sy, owner of SM Malls seem to agree on terms that would replace the old Sibulan airport with a new SM City branch once the new Bacong airport will be complete and functional.

Somehow, Ayala Lands, rumored to be also in contention, may have lost the bid.

Will wait for further details. Stay tuned..

The southern municipality of Bacong, Negros Oriental is determining the number and areas of property owners who will be affected by the proposed new airport project of the government.

Initially, the government allocated PHP300 million for the acquisition of land for the airport to include right of way, among others. The airport project will require at least 170 to 180 hectares of land and is eyed for construction in the villages of Combado and Isugan and adjacent areas, he added.

Volunteer assistance is offered by local businessmen who are members of the NegOr Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Real Estate brokers are now on the move at land pricings. They usually get 5% of the total purchase price of real estate.

Economists admit it’s a long way to go, even years. It took Panglao 18 years to realize the international airport which was inaugurated last year.

Right now, there is no definite area defined within the 180-hectare parameter of the proposed airport. Second, right of way negotiations then expropriation proceedings will take years. Many times, the budget will be reverted to the national coffers due to non-realization. Usually unused budgets will be reduced annually.

I doubt any of us will see a new airport here in our lifetimes.

Where possible I always use the inside lane to over take the slow moving traffic in the outside lane.

Yes, me too, with a long blast of the horn each time to make a point. Not sure why I do that though, as I'm sure it's lost on them and the wife just scolds me for it.

I would take this with a grain of salt, What would the Dumaguete Mayor be talking to SM malls about when the airport is located in Sibulan, there for Dumaguete has nothing to do with it..

This whole exercise is about identifying the land owners on someone elses's money so politicians can purchase the property and dig up dirt like failure to pay land tax etc so they have some leverage.. I don't like to be negative but that's is the way things work here. If politico's can't make money out of it, it will not happen.....
