I am on Siquijor island and need to find a good doctor in Dumaguete city that has a license to write script for Zolpidem and other controlled substances. You might be surprised to learn that many doctors in the RP do NOT have a license to write persctiptions for controlled substances. They are limited to basic meds like antibiotics and OTC. I have never been to a country with such paranoid restrictions on doctors. Does anyone on this forum have a doc who is their family physician and fully licensed? Thanks ahead.

It is not that surprising. The rule stems from the Philippines wanting to avoid the opioid problems that has plagued the rest of Asia for centuries and, more recently, the Western world. While their laws may be Draconian, a severe over-correction and have serious implications for patient end-of-life/post surgery comfort, they do serve a purpose and it is hard to argue that they didn't achieve the goals they set out to achieve.

I believe there are two types of prescription pads in the Philippines; a white one and a pink/red(?) one. You would be looking for a doctor that has the pink/red one and they are going to be few and far between, for obvious reasons. I can't help you with this but I wish you the best.

Btw, if you are suffering from insomnia the best course of action is likely a change of lifestyle/habits...not drugs, which can become addictive or make you reliant on them for sleep (I suffered from insomnia a long time ago. Turned out that I had some really bad habits that were keeping me up at night). Perhaps a bit of reflection on some bad/ unhealthy habits or underlying mental health issues could better, and more permanently, address the issue.

Thanks for your kind response. Actually, my doctor in Cebu uses only white perscriptions for Zolpidem, but I cannot always get to Cebu. Also, Zolpidem is not classified as an opioid and doesn't require another color script, but it does require a license to write it.

I am aware. If it isn't controlled via a pink prescription pad then it shouldn't be that hard to find a doctor that can prescribe. Finding a pharmacy that carries it may be the issue. I'm really not sure. A local doctor may be able to point you in the right direction or give you a reference to another doctor.

You can get Ambien and Oxycontin from Dr. Samares at Siliman Hospital. She is in the clinic most weekdays after rounds...

I see Dr. Samares at Siliman Hospital in the clinics at front of hospital. For 500 pesos and a good reason you can get OxyContin and surely Ambien...You have to go to the big Mercury by the market for Oxys. And they are expensive. Good luck!

Yeah, Ambien is a horrible sleeping drug. I was on it a long time ago and said several things I was completely unaware of until the next day when everyone was furious with me. Broke up with my gf one time while on it, then couldn't figure out what crawled up her *ss the next morning when I called her. There are many stories of people hopping in a car and driving off while on it. It is better to change your bad habits/lifestyle than to rely on sleeping pills.

I was not aware that OxyContin was even available in the Philippines. What mg? And what is the cost per mg pill? Mercury Drugs in Cebu charges P61 ($1.22) per 10mg of Zoldem (Zolpidem). My last Zolpidem prescription from the US cost 11 cents each.
