    davyL...
thanks for the noreco heads up. my i'net connection is so bad i often can't get logged out of facebook so i quit going there.

    norm : ))~

wondering why noreco has it's FB page settings so their customers have to log on just to read public information. i mean... noreco could have it's very own website where customers could log on to get an email alert every time there's gonna be a power outage, aka, brownout.

also, i hafta wonder why DI members have to log on to DI just to read barely readable noreco notices when we can search to group for public info w/o logging on. not complaining, well... i might be grumbling a little but can you fix that wrye?

    thanks... 8 )

You have to log in to see the picture? It's not supposed to be like that. I'll have a look at the permissions.

Had the permissions screwed up for guests/unregistered users. Should be able to see attachments/images without being logged in now.

Media available to guests (users not logged in) depends on how and where it was uploaded on the forum. Media that is uploaded through the "Upload a File" button under the thread reply box is visible to everyone. If media is uploaded through the Media Gallery it could be visible to everyone or it might not; this depends on the privacy settings of the album the picture/video was uploaded to. Member's options for album privacy are "Private", "Members Only", "Everyone" or media can be shared with specific members. The album the brownout notice was uploaded to is only visible to members.

A lot of forums do restrict some (or all) content from guest users and nearly all forums place certain site feature restrictions on guests (no posting, unable to view member profiles, restrict downloads....just to name a few). There are plenty of threads on admin forums that cover this topic. Some people are completely against any type of content restriction, some are all for it (like the owners of Quora.com) but most, like myself, fall somewhere in between. I feel that occasionally restricting certain types of content (pictures/videos) will help the forum increase registrations and get more people to post, which in turn makes the forum an even stronger community and authority on Dumaguete (because the DI would worthless if it weren't for the members). I know some people won't agree with that decision and they will have reasonable arguments against why content should never be restricted.....but I have heard all those arguments and taken them into consideration when making that decision.

Note: I do appreciate you bringing this up. I did not intend for the main content uploaded by users to be restricted from guest views. I do not want to restrict content that is uploaded by other members, it's a personal choice for me and my motive and reasoning for doing it should be quite obvious (it did get you to log in and make a few posts didn't it?). If a member wants certain pictures/videos restricted from guests the option is there.

Here are a few threads from an admin forum that speak on the topic if interested:
guest restrictions | The Admin Zone
Guests and Forums view | The Admin Zone
A case against 'privatizing' existing forums | The Admin Zone

    Dustin...
in june 2015, i got dropped by my isp (who i can no longer recommend) and since then, i've resorted to a smartbro stick modem and i haven't had sufficient signal to even load a page on most days. a couple of weeks ago, either smartbro fixed something or the winds have been blowing the right direction and i've been able to log on so i'll be posting more often.

btw.. DI is one of the easiest sites i've tried to load and that includes trying to load a simple search page.

did you know that if you trade a sewing needle for an egg, the egg will grow to be a winning fighter rooster. yup... a neighbor lady came by the other day with an egg and went happily home with a sewing needle. i dunno about the cock yet cuz the egg hasn't hatched yet... did i get ripped???
