:sigh: I don’t care about caucuses for grownups, I just wish they had left the Boy Scouts alone.

I bet the Boy Scouts wish that parents had continued to pop out 5-6 kids...but they don't anymore. Society changes. Their aren't nearly as many kids in the US to fill the ever growing number of after school activity options. The options for the Boy Scouts was to allow the other 50% of children into their program....or stop being a program all together.

Not sure what the rest of world has to do with the "Boy Scouts of America" and the "Girl Scouts of the USA".

    Scouts BSA:
"The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest Scouting organizations in the United States of America and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers."

    Girl Scouts of the USA:
"Girl Scouts of the United States of America, commonly referred to as simply Girl Scouts, is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad."

The BSA is a private organization. If someone wants to start up their own "boys only" organization they are free to do so. I suspect it won't be done as it simply isn't a sustainable business model. I think eventually the BSA and Girl Scouts will need to merge into one organization just to be able keep the lights on.

I wonder if the members of the Woodcraft Indians and the Sons of Daniel Boone (along with many other youth scouting programs) had this this big of a fit when they merged to become the BSA? Or is this some sort of "girls have cooties" thing? I'm not really sure, I haven't really heard any legit argument for keeping girls out of the program. It's not like there is some unfair physical advantage with learning survival skills that prepubescent boys have over girls. What these programs teach will benefit both boys and girls equally.

    Oh really?

Scouting began in England in 1907, based on the ideas of founder Sir Robert S.S. Baden-Powell and his book Scouting for Boys.

A member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910, by W.D. Boyce. Through the BSA’s International Department, American Scouts and international Scouts are provided a common resource of programs, funding, and training that increases and enhances their experience in the brotherhood of Scouting.

And now you know that BSA is not a private organization and does not revolve around America. You're welcome :angelic: But the good news is the rest of the world lets America be part of it.

I suspect the Sons of Daniel Boone ( and I’m sure Danny had many :-)) would have not have missed a beat on their own, however, in true Obama fashion may I bow to the queen and express my sincere appreciation for Mr Powell’s magnanimity.

I didn't say the BSA was the first to come up with the idea.

Sounds like the "UN" of scouts. It says the BSA is a "member". Private organizations can be members of other organizations just as countries can be a part of the UN or NATO and not lose their independence.

Ok? I don't understand how this changes anything. It is a group of non-profit organizations with a common goal getting together to share their knowledge and ideas.

They are a 501(c) non-profit organization. I'm not sure how you can argue they aren't a private organization (it isn't a service provided or funded by the government).

Yeah, it is, and yeah, it mostly does. :wacky:

    Also, from their FAQs:

Must I be a US citizen to join Scouting?

Citizenship is not required of youth or adult members. If you live outside the United States and are not a U.S. citizen, it may be more beneficial to join the Scouting association in your own nation. The World Organization of the Scout Movement provides contact information for all national Scouting organizations on its Web site at www.scout.org

Also, got you by two years.

The Sons of Daniel Boone (sometimes called the Society of the Sons of Daniel Boone), later the Boy Pioneers of America, was a youth program developed by Daniel Carter Beard in 1905 based on the American frontiersman. :cheeky:

    Edit: Excuse me, 5 years.
Woodcraft League of America, originally called the Woodcraft Indians and League of Woodcraft Indians is a youth program, established by Ernest Thompson Seton in 1902 and often regarded as one of the earliest youth organisations in modern history[1].

So we are no longer talking about BSA (Boy Scouts of America)? Sounds like you have switched to SDB (Sons of Daniel Boone)?

No one can force you to believe that the BSA are part of something larger than themselves. You are our Akela and must be obeyed. But we shall endeavor to DOB DOB DOB.
