With so many protests going on around the world in the present day, I find it hard to understand why present day people want to try to eradicate history.
The past is in the past and I can agree that somethings were indeed atrocious, but why not leave them where they belong as past history.
If we in this day and age can only refect on the past, what chance have we of changing the world for the better in the future?
This world pandemic we are experiencing has forced us to look new ways to operate as a society and we will never go back to what was the normal way of living in our major cities around the world pre-pandemic.
Already there is talk of greener spaces within cities where office blocks that will be surplus to requirements are replaced with parks and open spaces, as more people and companies improvise new ways to continue business as usual in the future.
Lets all look with a positive attitude towards the future and leave history as it is.

Not sure exactly what protests your are talking about but most protests are advocating for change or to voice opposition to that change. It really doesn't have much of anything to do about eradicating history. It is about moving forward or staying the course.

Was you posting about statue toppling and slavery?

I think it is essential we search the past to give people an awareness of what terrible things happened and to strive to eliminate those from the future.

What has destroying property or statues to do with advocating change for the better?
or why is it a certain element has crept into peaceful demonstrations in my part of the World.
I can only speak for what I see happening in UK and that in my opinion is heading in certain areas, towards lawlessness.
Maybe in part under the guise of rejecting the past, as a way of venting their feelings, while others are anti Government.
Change will come, and that time like history, will be recorded, whether we like it or not.
......bye the way I still believe there's enough good people to make a difference.

To quote Spanish Philosopher George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

It makes for good news (and in turn, higher view rates and advertising profits). Peaceful protests aren't really worth covering. The violent stuff is just more likely to get covered due to the media needing to make money. They do this crap in the US as well. 95% of the BLM protests are peaceful but the right wing media only covers the ones that turn violent. The left wing media does this in return and constantly brings up the capitol riots (and I'm sure they leave out 99% of the peaceful conservative protests). The media can't be trusted, they are just tabloid garbage.

So true. But that raises the point of where do we go to get the truth. We are in one place mostly and rely on sources of information to know what is happening elsewhere, world-wide. If we cannot believe anything then where does that leave us. Some might say it is up to us to filter - but how do we filter lies from lies?

Just to go back to Meghan and Harry (boring, I accept!) - the right-wing UK press labels her as dominating Harry in that interview, because she was "gripping" his hand. She may have been HOLDING his hand (that is okay world-wide, except here in the Phils!) and that could even have been due to nervousness. Anyway, at least on that issue I can think for myself of the possibilities - but millions of the gullible will add to their memory banks that her dominating him must be true.
