    Hello all,

General intro here.. My wife and I will be visiting your region of the Philippines in mid June.

We are 95% sure we want to retire in the Philippines, and will spend 2 weeks in the area, and hopefully the wife can get a solid impression of the area.

I have lived in the tropics before, and in a rain forest, so I dont think I will be backing out of the planned move to your area.

Just booked the tickets.... OUCH! But then again it is over 8500 miles..he he.

We hopefully will be making the move permanently in about 2 1/2 years.

I will try to pour over past threads, to answer any questions I might have.
Not the best at finding older posts... but will give it a good go before bugging the group too much.

I am currently thinking along the lines of the SRRV route with retirement. Any questions I have will probably be about this type of Visa.

We are from Arizona... and want to retire when we hit 55. Economic conditions have created 101K's out of what used to be 401K's, and people will need to work well past 55 if they stay in USA to retire.

Should be able to save more living over there in the Philippines, than if I staid here and worked.. sounds crazy, but the numbers dont lie. That is, of course, as long as things sorta hold together..lol.. moneywise, world-wise.

Anyhow, its a plan, and in a lovely place... reminds me of some of my old stomping grounds when I was a kid..

This trip will be quite the adventure for us... we just hope it agrees with my wifes medical conditions, and her doctor said it should be a good thing for her problems... so we are very hopeful.

    Hello Pravdaseeker,

welcome to DI. First of all a big compliment from my side. I should probably use your first post as a sample in our welcome mail for new members. It s nicely written and a good read.

I hope you get all sorted for your plans. Just ask anything you want to know. They guys and girls here give sometimes really good answers.

All the best for you and your wife.

    cheers

    Rhoody

Sounds like a plan, just remember Dumaguete is not the metropolis you may believe it is so doing your homework and poring over older posts is extremely important.

Retire at 55? I have to admire that, me I anticipate 65-75 but I still have young children so I am motivated.

Just to experience this part of the world is worth the trip, enjoy it.

    Thank You Kindly ..

    Dear fellow DI readers..

Thank you for the kind words Rhoody, and to Pedro for the word to the wise.

Luckily I have a friend who has lived in the P.I. for 11 years now. He helps me out a lot what to do, or where to go for fun..

We aren't real "nightclub scene" type of folks.. and we understand it is kind of a "slower" provincial area, say compared to Cebu for example.

We want to do permaculture on whatever land area we wind up with. Were looking at Valencia area for cooler temps.. and a more laid back atmosphere.

Wife is into gardening a lot..

Rhoody, I am only guessing, but I "guess" German is your birth language? Interesting... My ancestors were from the Black Forest area, and their name back then was German for "pine tree", or Fichen.. of course the rotten Ellis Island folks just had to butcher the original name... not really very nice word. nowdays.lol.

so German background, and look to be a diver as well... cool, I am also an open water diver. I hear Apo Island is near there too, and one of he best spots in the world... COOL.

    Thanks,

    Pravdaseeker

somehow, I can't hide it whatever I do, but actually my english is even better than my german, where I am the proud user of an almost not understandable slang... (no I am not from particular areas in east-germany but still equiped with a wild slang). I run through quite some jokes with my surname too... in erman or the english translation...

The diving here is just great and with the location of Dumaguete we have access to some worldclass areas in the Visayas.

    cheers

    Rhoody
