Hey pastrami, NYC's problem may be that i don't think it's called "military." I think you'll find it under "Courtesy." I think it's been around for quite awhile, over two years.

I didn't know about it until Jackie (PRA cebu asked if i had been in the military, and bingo, i saved $8600). It may not be in the website...

Jackie at PRA cebu was incredibly responsive to emails, and i (OCD) write a lot (too many, i'm obsessive about details.)

Requirements start on page 9. It does not specify FBI or (local) police clearance. Either would work though I'm sure the FBI clearance would be preferred and easier to get. (Getting a local police department to send a background check to the Philippine Embassy might be a bit of a challenge, especially if you are from a smaller town.)

If under 50 years of age, but over 35, the deposit amount is $50,000 for the regular SRRV. Worth noting since not everyone was born around the time dirt was being invented.

Also, the Courtesy (military) SRRV cannot be obtained by anyone under the age of 50.

Ok, as Dustin (wrye83) pointed out, the military (SRRV Courtesy) is for over 50 yrs. Also, i noted in the booklet (hadn't read that in years) that the NBI clearance is if you applied after being here over 30 days (3 months in my case), so guessing the US thingy is fine if you are applying when you get here... And the NBI is not the same as local police. It's national bureau and that's what the PRA wants if they don't want to use the american police report... Clear things up or confuse you ???

Do you have the full email address for Jackie at PRA Cebu - I know it's on the forum somewhere, but damned if I can find it. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone gotten a work permit without holding an employment contract from a particular employer?

    I don't know.
What do you want to do? Many situations do not require a work permit.
