The town where I lived in Tennessee actually had its own aquarium, and would you believe I never once visited? :(

hi Kuya, if I had more time in Gatlingburg I would have tried hiking the trails around smokey mountain..sigh.... so many place, so little time..... :(

But I guess that is the excitement in travelling places.... you can cleverly create your own itinerary in your limited time.

Kuya, there is a saying in tagalog: "huwag magiging dayuhan sa sariling bayan.."
in english: " Do not be a foreigner in your own country.."
in my own translation: Enjoy what your country has in store for you, before you check out other places outside your own country.... it does not make sense that a foreigner ask you questions about the history of your own country and not able to give them answer....:o

True... But in defense of Kuya, he did what many people do: overlook their local sites thinking that they'll always have a chance to visit. Then, the next thing you know, your transferred to another city and the opportunity is gone. I grew up just outside of Washington DC, and didn't visit the sites as often as I wanted to. I have visited the cities monuments, museums more now that I don't live there, then when I did.:o

But, in general, I agree with your comments. I like your saying, very true. It's good to know your locality, but sometimes a foreigner's viewpoint can also help in appreciating your own country.

Of course, we have a BIG country over here

A combination of time and financial restraints usually keeps me from wandering very far. It wasn't until I visited the Philippines that I made it out to the West Coast for the first time (though just for a few hours as I waited at LAX).

I need to work on not being a stranger in my own town first. Would you believe there is a nice aquarium about 20 minutes from here? Maybe I'll make it to that one
