At this problem. How about a vote as to whether you think a dog will suffer more if it is poisoned to death or just starves to death?
I took these photos just this morning on a beach in Sibulan.
The live one has NO HOPE of surviving more than a day or two and all of the Vets in the world will not be able to help it. Take a good look at it and tell me he is NOT suffering! I tell you the truth if I had the choice between starving to death and taking a poison. I would not go hungry.
Go ahead and tell me which dogs you think suffered the most; these two or the poisoned ones in Bacong? You already know my choice.

Both pics are self explaining; no comment about the choice to be made.

From my point of view, it's wrong to poison dogs and it's also wrong to let them starve to death, there are other options. Grandpainak, I suspect you are defending dog poisoning or you don't see other options?

    I don't know.
Will you please implement your other options so that the rest of us do not have to cope with all the stray dogs.

Dogs are listed as the 2nd deadliest animal in the Philippines.

    The mosquito is #1.

C4C9D921-BCF7-4A90-A09A-51F17A744D3B.jpeg Norwegian woman has died after contracting rabies from a stray puppy in the Philippines.

Birgitte Kallestad, 24, was on holiday with friends when they found the puppy on a street, her family said in a statement.

The puppy is thought to have infected her when it bit her after they took it back to their resort.

She fell ill soon after returning to Norway, and died on Monday at the hospital where she worked.

It is the first rabies-related death in Norway for more than 200 years.

Her family said Ms Kallestad had sterilised the "small scrapes" given by the puppy as she played with it, but sought no more medical attention.

"Our dear Birgitte loved animals," said her family. "Our fear is that this will happen to others who have a warm heart like her".

Rabies can cause a life-threatening infection of the brain and nervous system in humans.

The disease is nearly always fatal without vaccinations and kills thousands of people every year, mostly in Asia and Africa.

Pre-exposure vaccines are available to help with prevention. Post-exposure vaccinations are also recommended for anyone who may have come into contact with a rabid animal.

Rabies vaccines are not compulsory under Norwegian law, but Norway's Institute of Public Health recommends them for certain types of visits to affected countries, including the Philippines.

"We are very sympathetic with the family," said Siri Feruglio, a Senior Medical Officer at the Institute, in an interview with the BBC.

"It's really important to stress that even if you've been vaccinated before you travel, if you do have contact [with a potentially infected animal] you need to go to a local health clinic for a second vaccination.

"This is a disease that's endemic in 150 countries and it's a huge health problem."

You are wrong and right. I would NEVER condone or defend the poisoning of any animal including humans on death row! Veterinarians and dog shelters put dogs to (sleep?) Sleep my a$$ they KILL then with POISON by the thousands every day. THEY POISON them because it is considered the most humane way to KILL them!
You are right; I do not see a better option. The person that did that in Bacong is no doubt very pissed at the stray dog problem and ignorant to the dangers they placed the citizens of Bacong in. Turning poison loss in the environment like the equivalent to turning aids loss in a Nevada wwhore house.
Just FYI I had difficulty taking those photos because I have trouble seeing through tears. I can not imagine the suffering those two dog went through and are going through.
How about you and I pool out pesos and open a dog shelter and try to rid this Island of its stray dog population.

Neutered is the way to go, but I know it will not solve the problem, as someone said before the problem is created by humans and must be solved by humans and like the pollution, it will take decades before that will happen. I have not come to the Philippines to tell people how to live their lives so no matter how wrong I find it, I need to accept it or find another place to live. I try to contribute in small ways by talking to the locals, yes it's a long way to go, we need to accept it or? The way the vet make a dog "sleep" is very different than the way they die when poisoned that's for sure

Dying of rabies is more horrible than stray dogs being poisoned.
