James, a nice visit-review with good underwater pictures at Ducomi pier.
It's indeed an excellent spot for diving.

I hope you don't mind when I make a remark about the determination of the creatures you have spotted.
e.g.: I doubt if you have seen 'various mantas' in the sanctuary at Dauin. I guess you did see mantis ?
I dive there several times a week since several months but never spotted a manta (ray).
The school of fishes are no batfishes and the garden 'snakes' are probably garden eels. There are thousands of them there.
It does however not at all devaluate the nice picture you made.
    Thanks.
It's really not simple to find the correct names of all we see under water.

Pictures from Masaplod North in Dauin

Thanks for the corrections on their names. I sometimes forget my wife's real name, more so these fish! :p After a Rescue Diver class, I should learn Aware, so that I can "brag/blog" properly, hahaha!

Our last dive of the trip was at Masaplod North Marine Reserve. That's where we were taunted (not chased) by a trigger fish couple (but it felt like we were chased because I went "running" out of the water after that!) That's why I didn't get to take pictures of the garden eels.

1st pic below: Picasso Fish -- What else is there to say? It's not polite to stare?

2nd pic below: Neon Bulb -- Is this an anemone? Is it called inside-out anemone? Or maybe arinola anemone?

Click HERE for more/larger pictures of critters in Masaplod North. If the link doesn't work, try "http://picasaweb.google.com/tanjames44/20080707MasaplodNorthDiveSite" without the quotes. I'd appreciate it again if the real/proper names are provided over there.

    James

The second one is indeed an anemone. I don't know the offical name for this particular type, but many more do retract the "outside" to inside. So I doubt if 'inside-out' is the correct name of this type of anemone.
The first one is a flat fish. Can't find the name of the shown type.

Again nice pics on the link you provided.

What you called 'manta' (hidden under the sand) is not a manta, but it belongs to the family of the rays (like the manta does).
This one is likely (you can't see it because of the sand) a blue dotted stingray.

    The clams are 'giant clams'.
The shrimps are on a nearly closed anemone.
The 'yellow lipped fish' is an emperor fish of the type Pomacanthus semicirculatus.
