I mean, what made you become one, as in move to dumaguete and from where?

    • Are you retired in your home country?
    • Did you retire early, and in case why?
    • Why Dumaguete or the PH?
    • Did you think of other places to retire to?
    • What are your age and your story for moving to Dumaguete?
    • Have anyone of you retired to other places before?
    • How many of you work in Dumaguete?
    • Anything else you want to add

Paul, I and several others already answered some of your questions in another thread where they explained their background and (if living in D'gte) why they came here. But I will answer anyway:

I am an expat because I live HERE and I come from THERE (other continent).
But I'm sure you did not want this as an asnwer, so I continue with the list of questions.

    -Yes
-Yes (it's wiser not to damage my health before enjoying retirement)
-Ph: because I liked it since years as a diver D'gte:its ambiance (inc. boulevard, restaurants, students, Apo Island, scenery etc....)
-Yes, but only for a very short moment (decision made after visit to D'gte).
-First part of question too difficult (haha). Second part: for moving...a divorce. To D'gte.....see answer # 3
    -Me ? NO
    -Me ? NO
No. You can find that somewhere else on this forum.

    jellyfish.

    First thanks for the answears,

If I should read all the forum it would take me ages and if I would not have gotten the answers with the current update they may have,

Yes I have asked some of them before but with so few answears that I did not get to form an opinion on it.
Thus I made another effort in a tread that may be more informative for people like me and others that would like to know this.

As of now I am enjoying my life as it is but we always look for other possibillities and me beeing "dragged" here almost by having two brothers (soon to be all my family) going to move here, I like more and better information. Using analyzes of what to come is always good and I have gotten lots of info on that already but still I have not found consentrated answears to my questions.

    Hi Paul,
Personally I think jellyfish gave you a very good answer. Clearly you know a lot about Dumaguete alredy through your family members - don't you trust their advice?

There is a mix of retired expats here, as well as those living 6 months abroad and 6 months in Dumaguete, and some are even working.
They may all have different reasons for coming to Dumaguete but I think jellyfish's answer is a good representation of many.

It probably started off as a divers' heaven and they spread the word. The ambience in Dumaguete is special, most people enjoy some commodities to call life relaxed, the city surroundings are still a short ride away for even more relaxation.
If you look for luxury and convenience choose Makati, if you look for good service look for another country, if you like a simple comfortable life for small money but everything else within reach choose Dumaguete.

Nobody knows what you are looking for and the only way to find out if this is for you is to go to Dumaguete, stay in some hotels and resorts, talk to locals and to other expats. That is what the rest of us have done.

You cannot base our retirement decision entirely on postings in a forum, I think. Nor by reading the local newspapers or looking at beach resorts' web sites. You have to go and take look.

Paul, I was replying already to you and saw suddenly that you already did delete a part of your text.
That was exactly the part I wanted to react on.
So it's OK now for me, because I took the time to give you an honest answer.
It's also honest if I advise you to put less questions in one thread.
This could be ONE reason why people are hesitating to react on a " question storm". But I was still polite enough to react on them.
I guess you meanwhile understand better the tone in my language.
It's only a well meant advise to improve the quality (and quantity) of reactions from forum members.
    Good luck.

Well. I'm not an expat yet. But my story here (very short version)is that I marry the girl I fall in love with, during my first divetrip to DGTE in 92. I am a Norvegian(hei forresten) 61 modell.Untraditional for that matter that we allready have our house there.Finished 2006(well, will a house ever be finished?)But living in Norway as not retired yet. Have two kids. One of each so nothing more to prove.:D
As of now I just wait for saturday to come so that our travel to DGTE will start. So I hope to meet Jelly and the others DI members there soon.Have been active diver since 1977. More than 3000 dives. Favorite dives. Spearfishin in strong current divespots.Even my nick here refere to spearfishin cause my favorite used speargun is a "Picasso Blackline S"
So there is the story, guys!!!

    see yahh!!

    Jellyfish,

yes the one I deleted was a good "delete!" When gentle told me I started looking thru it again and then I felt you had an honest answear there for me, so I thought what an arce I am writing that  I am here to make friends not enemies:D Thanks again for your answears and an explanation why so few answears my posts, but as you know...being new is also being currious and thus many questions hehe, I have a few hundred more :p but I will cool it down. I have also learned many things by reading the forum and I have been able to tell my brotehrs a thing and two witch they deeply apreciated.

Blackline (hei tilbake), I read your post in the introduction segment so I knew of you. I am sure that we will hang out together when it is my turn to turn to PH  But I would also like there to be a foreigner club of some sort if there aint one by now. Maybe like some said here, riding bikes, and golf buddies.

Diving is something I have no experience in and I am sevrely afreid of sharks but I guess beeing there with lots of divers that may change.

Beeing a former pilot I am thinking of maybe buying a ampfibious airplane to play around with when the times come and the price is right, or maybe a little helicopter also depending on price and econemy.

But a boat is high on the list also.

    We`ll see what happens.

Jellyfish...maybe you can provide a link to the thread you mention in your first response. That would be very helpful. I agree it could take ages to search this forum as it grows by the hour.

Kuya, I could do that, but I don't want to spend that searching-time when I can't do it in a snapshot.
If I do remeber a thread I will surely give it in my first reaction.
Now, to show again my good will, I searched a bit and found one thread where some answers can be found. There are surely more I believe.
