    Hi,

I read the entire thread and did some outside homework but would like personal opinions please.

Opinions I've read strongly point to Hotel Nicanor, Florentina Homes, Tip Top Tower and a few others as good, moderately priced places to stay for a couple weeks.

Of these, and any others you care to point out, which have the best security against theft from rooms? I understand no place is completely safe if a thief really wants in, but within reason, where is the safest place in Dumaguete?

I have expensive camera gear and an expensive laptop computer that I'll want to leave in the room. The camera gear will go with me most of the time but the laptop will stay behind.

    Thanks!

Hi; i have had good luck @ the bethel and the nicanor. If you don't mind going out of town a ways, the eldorado resort in dauin is very safe and comfortable---jl

Any lodging place should be safe or be closed.
Just arrive without showing any expensive items.
Put those laptops or cameras in your locked luggage before arrival, i've never heard of a broken up luggage in a hotel here.
And upon arrival ask to see the room first to see if it is possible to enter the room from outside(exept the frontdoor)

I know a fellow Kano that uses to stay at the Palwa with thousands of dollars worth photographic and electronic equipment, in and out of his room all day with nary a problem.

So, hotel Palwa gets on the recommend list.

ALSO, Handyman hardware sells these stand-alone, portable, motion detector alarms:

Good for when you leave your room, also good for at night, just aim it at the door.

I have stayed in many hotels all over in Mindanao and The Visayas and never anything stolen from my personal belongings. Unless you will choose for a dirty cheap rock bottom priced hotel, no need to be afraid even a tooth brush will not be missing, though no full guarantee of course.

For low cost and safe hotel, I would still bat for Tip Top Tower right in front of St. Louis School. It is very, very new and is near Robinsons. Anyway, I haven't heard of thieves getting into hotels so you don't need to worry about that. Just lock your room very well before going out.

it's not the thieves, it is the staff you need to be aware of. I know one place downtown (not one of those mentioned before) where money was missing after cleaning, a few peso but still. or the key was "accidentally" with the security guard and not at the front desk.

If you have kids Florentina is the way to go.

Things like this should be reported to management of the hotel who I am sure do not want such losses to happen.
