    Lets look at the math;
25/100,000 x 320,000,000 = 80,000 should be the total number dead in the US

Eskirvin I went to the link you provided and below are the numbers it provided. Something seems wrong with your math. 767,000/120 million works out to about 0.6% NOT 0.05% as you believe.
From the numbers it looks like about 12% of the people hospitalized died.

These estimates suggest that during this period, there were approximately:

    120.2 Million
    Estimated Total Infections

    101.8 Million
    Estimated Symptomatic Illnesses

    6.2 Million
    Estimated Hospitalizations

    767,000
    Estimated Total Deaths

I know a lot of people struggle with math.

It's not the math, it's only looking at the age groups with more favourable outcomes. 95% of the deaths in the USA have been among the 50+ group. If there would be no compelling argument for solidarity between age groups then his position would indeed be correct that things look overblown regarding the risks of covid.

His numbers seem to be for specific age groups, yours are for all age groups. Both arent really telling the entire picture and lack nuance and context. Covid kills the elderly with MUCH higher frequency. I don't think anyone denies that the virus is much
more deadly and has impacted the elderly to a much higher degree than the rest of the population. Much like the flu, the vaccines should be highly recommended (even mandated) for those in the high risk categories that don't have much longer to live. I understand why younger people would be more hesitant and concerned about long term effects of the vaccine...since "long term" is something they actually have to take into consideration.

At the same time I think that employers are well within their rights to mandate FDA fully approved vaccines. Employees that don't wish to be vaccinated aren't having their rights violated by these mandates. They can go work for someone else or start their own business that doesn't require it. Conservatives should agree that this is democracy, capitalism and the free market at play. If you don't like it you can f*ck off and get a job elsewhere.

    Actually it is the math.
My age group is the +50 group which I think is the age group for many of the members here.
    Read the quote below

I agree with you 100% neither his numbers or mine do not give an accurate account of the situation. The number presented was for "my age group" is not correct.
    That was my point.

EDIT added the words do not

    I don't know.
The frustrating part of this is how long it takes the ignorant anti-vax crowd to figure things out.

Anti-mask and anti-vaccine crusaders have stuck to their word against science ... that is until a string of the most vocal skeptics fell victim to Covid-19. In the latest episode of The Point, CNN's Chris Cillizza explains how the anti-vaccine contingency has changed its tone, and how these deaths could've been completely avoidable all along.

The patients are younger. They have fewer preexisting medical conditions. And at my hospital, over 95% of these hospitalized patients share one common feature: They’re unvaccinated.

No, they aren't. Any science based approach is going to take a look at the entire burden, or effect on the individual. Here's Deepti:
    upload_2021-9-3_18-1-31.png
She's a UK epidemiologist with other credentials and a critic of UK school policy. So she's estimating the burden of long covid on schoolkids. You would have to add that burden into the mix and it is X, the unknown. Two current theories: 1, there is a reservoir somewhere in the body, and 2. there is a chronic autoimmune response generated in the body, and it seems to affect more women. People who are hospitalized generally seem to lose some brain matter as the condition worsens (brain fog, etc,), if you survive intubation they estimate you've lost 7 points off your IQ. Lead poisoning causes a two point loss. So for some (~10% they think) of the hospitalized, there is a big change in life.

This has gone political already. I don't see why we should continue to argue with those who refuse to take the vaccine.

Society is already starting to tell them they aren't welcome. They are fighting back with lawsuits. Justice requires arguments to be heard.
