so I need to start a new thread just to introduce myself? Seems a bit pretentious lol. Anyway I am Bruce and I have been living in both the PI and the States for the last 10 years. For the last few of those years I have been busy building a farm with my wife and her family in the mountains of southern Cebu above Dalaguete. Happy to get to know you guys here and maybe do some networking

    Just one of the rules!

:D Welcome bounty, like most forums, there are rules that we all, should try and stick too. The Administrators, are good and When! we all started out here at DI, we were asked to read the rules and introduce ourselves on the thread that asks you too. any way, WELCOME to DI, Jack P. here saying hello. You will find no end of Help, Advice, Interesting bits and pieces pop up all the time. I think there are one or two would be farmers on DI that no doubt will ask questions, answer yours and I am sure when you have trawled the site a little, you will soon get some idea what the forum is all about. Unlike a lot of forums I have looked at, DI is definitely more sociable and a lot of members have in fact met and shared some SMB's and had a few laughs. Hope to read some posts soon and hope that your time with us is Fruitful.

Hey thanks you guys for the welcome...sure I am happy to talk about the farm. Its ancestral property that I purchased with the wife. Its very nice view property but pretty remote, up in the mountains. I would say we are up about 800 meters. The climate is cool and very wet. I have begun raising goats and hogs. Want to try chickens, a layer operation but we have our hands full with the pigs at the moment. Only have about a hectare, the father in law grows cabbage and peppers. I would like to take advantage of the temperate climate, I am from Seattle and its really very similar, come up with a more unique crop for him to try...strawberries? thought about blackberries but then I could be responsible for blackberries taking over the PI...lol

Welcome Bruce, I am originally from Seattle as well. I am starting a little vegetable garden here in Bacong, the soil is pretty sandy but some things starting to grow.

hey a fellow Seattlite! Actually I am in Seattle at this moment, got here a week ago. I return every year to try and get some work in for a few months during the summer. I work construction. Sandy soil is a good thing isn't it? You want the drainage. You got your organics going? Mix in some compost? I really do not know a thing about gardening. Being that I am trying to make a business out of it be nice to learn something

Seattle is very nice during their short summer. I left when I was 18 to go college and the military, family still there (water logged).

We can attest to that! We live in the Seattle area, and we just went thru 2 weeks of constant, steady , drenching rain. But once the sky clears, like today...it's beautiful!
