Think i will move to the States instead, if its that cheap .
If the Dollar rose and the peso sank, yepee all is well for the american expat's .
Thats whats it's all about. boo hoo lets all go home my pension stinks.
Come over to the U.K and tighten yer belt. Prices are extortionate, and the taxes are a rip off. can't wait till i am going from rip off britain.

    jss,

With the advent of ebay I think the global costs of exported goods are fairly similar around the world. I don't know about America but from the UK perspective I can't find much that's more expensive. Although if you want to buy blatantly western items like Sony Wega TV's and a Toyota that's not a Corolla  etc yeah it's not cheap. But if you buy what the locals buy like Mitsuboshi (that's my personal favourite :D ) stuff etc it's pretty good value. The best thing is that when your electronic stuff busts you can get it fixed for peanuts. There's hardly any market out there for proper Hi-Fi, decent cereals with milk (very pricey) etc etc.

You are right I just checked with my wife, foreigners can't own land  , not an issue for me though  .

    POUND/EURO vs USD

Maybe this is where the miscommunication is coming from. Compare POUND/EURO based expat versus U.S. DOLLAR based. If both started out in 2006 with 100,000pesos in the bank account, it is as if U.S. expat has 110,000pesos in the bank account in 1 year, and U.S. expat has only 80,000pesos. Thats a big difference. U.K/EURO guys feel like they are MAKING money. and U.S. guys feel like they are losing money...

    jss,

Point taken. I always considered that the Phils economy was closer tied to US economy, however I never did any research to see if this was true. It doesn't appear to be as we are now getting over $2 for £1 but I'm not getting any more Peso's.

The downside though is that I'm in the UK  (Sunglasses ironic). UK is not good value.
