Does anybody know where I can purchase Cinnamon sticks Vanilla pods or extract in the little village. Its too far to go to Rustans in Cebu???
i realize it's not what you're looking for but i've found both powered cinnamon and vanilla extract in rob's and hyper/lee plaza. gently squeeze the cinnamon packs to make sure they're airtight. i'd think there's someone growing both vanilla and cinnamon here but how do you find them?
If you want the better stuff go to yan yan opposite the public market. I think vanila pods need to be ordered.
Robinson's has cinnamon sticks, at least they usually do. They stock them in the produce area next to the the bins with rice and beans and packaged cheap seasonings, or more correctly, repackaged. Most vanilla you find here is the cheap stuff unless you just need a really small quantity. Yan Yan stocks McCormick vanilla but I haven't seen beans anywhere. The cinnamon I've seen at Yan Yan is ground.
I was looking for vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks at one time when I was there, and I could only find someone in Manila that maybe had them, but I was never able to verify that. I ended up settling for what I could find locally (bottled vanilla and ground cinnamon). Good Luck!!
I just checked Robinson's and they had about 20 or 30 bags of cinnamon sticks, repacks of course. 400 to 500 grams per bag, I think about 20P, maybe 25P per bag, I forgot to write it down, but that is close. It is where I said, in the produce section in the bins with the other spices. As I said about the vanilla, you can only find flavor and I'm not sure it that is the same as extract. If you find beans I'm sure you know how to make extract. Back to the flavor, they have the very small bottles of McCormick but Yan Yan has the big ones. I don't really care for the cheap vanilla everybody sells.
