I don't know where you live but it's somewhat obvious that you haven't really seen Filipinos in their home country. I don't know, but maybe they are really like that but I can assure you that, the majority of the Filipino population are not like what you think they are.

Are you imposing that we Filipinos will be the same wherever we are? Have you thought about the environment they were raised in? We should always ask ourselves these kinds of questions before we discriminate/judge people. Although ultimately we control our actions, it is our environment and other things that influence us greatly.

I'm not here to start a war. What you written on your post is probably true and I can't really disagree with what you said since I don't live in the U.S but what I can tell you is the Filipinos do not behave like that at all with 'full access to technology' I come from Dubai, UAE. Pretty famous tourist place with the Palm Islands and the 7-star hotel, The Burj Al Arab. So you could say that the quality of life is quite close to that of the U.S no? The Filipinos there are all hardworking and pretty much the exact opposite of what you have described them. Sure, you might tell me that the culture and the way of the world is different than that of the U.S but that is exactly what I'm trying to point out. It's not just Filipinos, anyone who was raised in different countries would also be just as different. The case here is just that Filipino Americans have been frowned upon and because of that, people tend to make the same opinion of every other Filipino in the world.

I don't mind you saying those bunch of Filipino Americans are rude, disgusting, worthless based on your personal experiences but what I do mind is that you lumping the rest of the Filipino nation along with them. True, the Filipinos have yet to actually contribute something to the world but they are people, just like you and me, and they equally have the potential to benefit the world just like any other nation.

There's a lot of things I would like to say about the U.S and how they take advantage of the country but I prefer to believe the good in people rather than their bad side.

Despite the economic downhill, our past corrupted presidents and our ever growing debt cycle with the world bank. I am proud of my country because I have seen their good side, they are honest, helpful and sincere. Ofcourse not all of them are like that but I want to believe in them. You might scoff at me and call me a fool but if don't believe in them, then who will?

dralionblade I think 'the article' is from somewhere else not from this poster but put up to ask opinions.

Myself I am not getting into this, I lack the knowledge, I just know that there is of course a racial connection to China. If there are issues in Filipino society (abroad) it is something for the Filipino's to deal with, nobody likes an outsider to get into that.

yea, maybe what I said was a little too much but I just can't leave that post alone without showing the good side of the Filipinos, you know?

Sincerely sorry if my post may have offended an avid reader.

no of course not just that you seemed to address the messenger (I think).

There are millions decent people working their but of abroad (who are heavily supporting the economy in the Philippines). The statements in the 'article' where generalised, I do not know the US Filipino community other then through family there. All I can say is that they seem to have been caught up in the American way (consumerism) but so have most immigrants and it has not passed the Philippines either (again like most of the world I guess).

For the rest I rather discuss matters face to face with people, on messageboards these things tend to get out of hand and 'guests' should stay far away of discussing 'hosts'.

The reason the Filipino immigrant kids relate to Chinese and Japanese kids is that they all belong to the minority population. I am pretty sure my children who grew up in California felt that way. Their Chinese and Japanese friends often hang out in our home, oftentime enjoying our home cooked Filipino food. For some of these kids the friendship has endured until now.

As an adult I felt some kinship with my Asian co-workers and I am sure this was reciprocal.

We Filipinos have no desire to be like the Chinese or Japanese. Our culture and our racial make up is more Malay, but we are proud just being ourselves. We don't need to be anything else.

This persons attitude towards Filipinos is not shared by many in the US, I am sure. including among the Japanese and Chinese immigrants.

Just read that post again, and I noticed it was written by " Art Bell". This is a hoax. Two years ago another anti-Filipino letter written by the same person was circulating in the Filipino loops. No such person exists. This post did not deserve and answer.

Felisa Gill is right. Art Bell is a well known columnist and married to a Filipina. There has been several articles of this ilk that were not written by him around the internet, in an effort to discredit him. Art Bell loves the Philippines AND it's people.
