    Exception #2 is housing
    Exception #3 is public transportation including local airfare
    Exception #4 is delivered bottled water
    Exception #5 is beer and cigs if one is so inclined
    Exception #6 is that the cheap Chinese made crap is even crappier and cheaper! :D

    ....and last but not least is that my Filipino wife is definitely lower maintenance than any American woman I've known! :D

    The U.S. has property taxes, sales tax, income tax (Federal and State), fees for this and fees for that, taxes on ALL utilities and phone bills which the Philippines doesn't have or doesn't have near as much!

    If one wants an American lifestyle it IS better to stay in America in my opinion, but the cost of living there, especially in CA is a lot higher than in the Duma area.

    KDF, I agree, also even if the electric costs are higher we don't need any winter heating of any kind, and Air Conditioning is a choice but not required.

    Wew! The last time I was charge for 14php/kwp was living in a condo @ Makati ( you cant complain because it was written on the contract, but they have good service no blackout or low voltage)....Anyways, I dont get it, why electricity in the Philippines is too expensive. Speaking here in Dumaguete, I dont get it too... thinking they boast their geothermal energy based here in Negros island but still the electricity is expensive.

    Electricity is roughly the same price as th UK for each KWH. Our suppliers make a tidy set of profits every year and good dividends for the shareholders.

    I take it that we are all talking about the same thing, this is the first item on the payed receipt from NORECO 1. GENERATION CHARGES = Feb. 2011 = 3.6339Peso/KwH
    March = 3.783
    April = 4.1983
    May = 4.7510
    June = 4.7311
    July = 5.9295

    This is in Dumaguete City proper, Residential, connected since 1999 with a GE 100Amp Meter, my source tells me that the final charge will be 10.90Peso per KhH.
    Also I heard that all the beach lots are Commercial and that they pay a higher rate.

    it's very difficult to compare as it's simply not apples-to-apples quality of living.

    Well. The prices ere compared to coal prices, and get a green certification and a co2 charge. Even without produced a single gram Co2.

    Same in Norway. Here we have hydro electric electricity production at a production cost of just under 1 peso/Kwt. When we pay the bill, the ammount is around 11 peso/ kwt.
    And my house consume here is around 25.000 Kw/t a year. :(

    Right now my Noreco power is at 252.8 volts, as it is most mornings then drops a bit later in the day. The bonus current keeps the AVR busy.

    I wish you could send a few of your extra volts my way. We get to the point where the lights dim if you use the micro wave. I have an aircon but it wont work due to low voltage.
