About 5 years ago, 4 of us started a charity group here called the Thursday Club with the sole purpose to assist the poor children here with 100% of the money going toward the projects. We invited Rhoody to join and he agreed we could post our charity projects on DI Forum along with a contact if anyone wanted to join our group or offer any funds or labor for our projects. Our projects included making upgrades to some elementary schools in need, an annual Christmas presents for sick children at the provincial hospital, and food relief following the Sendong typhoon.
My point is that we never personally asked for support but many members came forward joining our team and/or giving money to help. In fact we were surprised at the support we had when we posted a project, even members who were overseas wired money. So from that experience, I agree with Gerry that putting a flyer announcing your project and inviting those that were interested to help out.

I have no comment or concern with how a business promotes a charity event/program myself. I will ask they they be please kept separate on the forum though.

There is an existing thread for the charity school program here: Charity - Adopting a School | Dumaguete Info

Let's try to keep this thread on topic (food, service, reviews of the True Love restaurant).

I was shocked to see this place just south of Robinson Mall about 1KM. What a Great Place and Vibe. Great atmosphere in this little cafe.
Complimentary bowl of soup and cornbread was delicious.
Both the Jerk Chicken and the Mutton Curry were beautiful and inexpensive.
The staff all look and act like they really love being there and as a consequence the service is fabulous. Thyis place is spotless. Really good value . The Owner Orville Henry is Great to Chat with ! and well knowned in Jamaica for being a Great Chef !A Bit of Jamaica in The Philippines !

After speaking with the owner of True Love, and earlier in the night, with Gerry I believe that this thread can be opened again. If any users would like to carry on with the exchange that happened a few days ago I would ask that you do so in person and not via the keyboard. I have a feeling that doing so in person will clear up a lot of the problems and conflict presented a couple days ago. I am certainly not taking a side on the subject and will remain neutral because I feel that both sides have solid points and arguments.

That being said, I will ask for two things here (and with other business review threads/showcases as well) though:
    1. If you have not personally visited a restaurant/business please do not critique/review a business owner's business, food or practices. Questions and requesting more information to be posted is fine but criticism should be made from first hand experience. We all know that words can get twisted, experiences exaggerated/played down and context can be lost or misinterpreted when coming from sources other than yourself. It is completely understandable that a business owner would get frustrated with reviews and criticism coming from people who have never been in their establishment. I will also not approve any "Anonymous" or guest posts that are leaving reviews.
    2. I will also ask that business owners replying to reviews/experiences (both positive and negative) please do so in a professional and courteous manner. Not only does telling people to bugger off hurt your business and livelihood, it also breaks forum rules. I'm not telling anyone how to run their business or act within their own establishment here, I'm just trying to provide and environment that is beneficial to both business owners and customers and replying with attacks and/or snide comments does nothing to help me out with this.....and it simply won't be tolerated on this forum.
As mentioned above, these Showcase pages/reviews are meant to offer an environment for business owners to help show the community that they are there and offer a bit of free advertising, it also provides a way for customers to share their experiences at these businesses so that others may determine if the business is a place they might like to visit. Positive reviews are great and shows owners what they are doing right. Negative reviews (and almost all businesses will get a one or two of them) should be seen as an opportunity for owners to improve their business (or not, and just be seen as insight to what customers are thinking). The important thing here is for everyone to remain respectful with their reviews, criticism and replies and to not take these comments personal. Without this, having a review section is completely pointless and will result in nothing but conflict and eventually avoidance of posting businesses and reviews....which doesn't help anyone out.

Note: These rules apply to every member on this forum including moderators and myself. I'm human and do frequently screw up. If you see a moderator or myself breaking the forum rules do not be afraid to call us out on it or, preferably, hit the "Report" link under the offending post. There is more than one moderator for this exact reason.
