As do many other businesses. Had nothing to do with local outrage about prostitution or the barangay hall cracking down on their permit.

He just said your pecker might “fall off”, so why would you mourn their closure? Focus.

There used to be one but it got closed during the mayoralty of Perdices. If there is any existing club like that now, I don't know where it is but Dumaguete City is known as a University town as well so I think those types of clubs are not in consonance with the place's overall vibe.

Do drugs and alcohol fit into that vibe? There sure is a lot of that. Those activities generally go hand-in-hand with prostitution/brothels. Dumaguete is not standing on any moral high ground above other cities in the Philippines. It is there if you are motivated enough to find it. Having universities doesn't get rid of killers-for-hire, drugs, alcohol, prostitution, theft, robbery, violence, child/spouse abuse, rape, pedophiles etc etc. Dumaguete has it all, just like every other city in the Philippines. When you have tons of poverty and shanty towns these things are going to exist.

I certainly agree with you Rye83-----drugs, prostitution, alcohol, etc they're all here in this small city and it's sad. A small city like this should be easier to manage, you'd think, but all sorts of people coming from different places have come to reside here and so we have a different sort of Dumaguete now.

I don't agree. There are plenty of people from Dumaguete that partake in these vices/crimes. It isn't "outsiders" corrupting the city. It is just human nature.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with alcohol, drugs or prostitution as long as everyone is consenting adults. Do whatever you want to your body so long as you aren't hurting anyone else. I don't believe in government's holding their citizens hands in life. IMO, government exists to serve, not control.

There are no strip clubs or girlie "takeout" within the city limits because such venues would not get licensed. In that respect, being a conservative town with . religiously funded universities is worth mention. Also, brick and mortar prostitution venues are being bypassed by the internet.

You come to this from an angle of being a very intelligent person - no one is going to get you drunk, using drugs or in bed with a prostitute unless you wish it to happen. But what do you think about government controls to help reduce the number of people of low intelligence and/or those easily manipulated from being hooked on drugs by sellers doing things such as giving free drugs initially? Or even by the hopelessness of their situation (most of us don't really know what that is like as we have never been there). Does that not have an effect on the whole society which is too great to allow free choice to operate? Even as individuals we are affected by druggies raiding homes for drug money - can we survive in a society where there is 'free choice'? Btw, in principle I am very much for 'as low a level of government control as possible' - but just look at the human race!

It is they very government protection of such members of society that cheats the gene pool and allows them to proliferate. Nature is libertarian and was successful for millennia and then God created liberals.
