We are in interesting times indeed. For every expert, there is another expert that says that the other expert doesn't know what they seem to think they know. Maybe we need new experts on cross-expertise evaluation that can tell us if one expert is properly assessing the expertise of the other.
Appealing to authority is quite lazy journalism...but I would agree that this quarantine stuff has done far more harm than good and could have been handled much better.
