I know this is a frivolous question. Are there sugar free products in Dumaguete? Such as diet sodas, Splenda, Sweet & Low etc.....

You can find Splenda at Robinsons or Lee's Plaza, and Hyper Mart. I have used Splenda for a long time. Hope this helps alittle.

The Philippines is a sugar plus country, so not much choise.
Sweet'N low is available in Tax Free shops in Manila and Cebu.
Equal you can find in the supermarket of Robinson's
Limited number of sugar free products, Nescafe sugarfree 3 in 1, Coke and Pepsi have a sugarfree cola and there is sugarfree jam.
Be carefull with bread, far to much sugar, Gardenia is the only one that gives an indication of 3g sugar for 70g wheatbread.

In the sugar free game, there are substitutes used to give the sweet feel in the mouth. Aspertane (I hope i spelled it right) Is proving to be a dangerous substance and is commonly used in the USA and I saw it advertised in the import candy display at lee plaza as star ingredient in one of the products there...i listened to 2 hour talk show radio "coast to coast am" and that night was hosting a lady who gave research info on aspertane used as sugar substitute and its link to so many deadly diseases, including cancer and complications in diabetes...web search coast to coast am radio and specify aspertane and the shows details may come up.

    Tunji,

I agree on your post regarding Aspertame. I did hours of research on it and even spent around 20 minutes talking to the American cancer society, It is very controversial world wide. I even saw a blip on tv that the Philippines may ban it one day.

This example is not science but. A friend in Cebu consumed at least 1 ltr. Of Diet coke per day and several glasses of nestea with Aspertame. He was having several health problems, so he stopped all Aspertame products for a month. He swears he is a new man and will never touch the stuff again.

Now just to play it safe for my family, we brew our own iced tea and use raw sugar. It's not difficult for us to stay away from a chemical that could do harm.
That being said, I'm not a fanatic, regular coke without Aspertame can sometimes be seen in my house but far less than before.

Hi Firefly, As I said this is very controversial the world over, that is why I didn't breech this subject before, but I wouldn't go to equil.com to find any thing they don't want you to know about their products. Remember the tobacco company's? One good thing in all this, we drink a lot more water, fewer chemicals and that isn't a controversy.
