Actually the numbers are not strange if you are assaulting someone's prepared defenses. A couple of claymore mines can really make a mess of things, then if you allow me to retreat in the direction I want, you will get more of the same. Wash, rinse, repeat. Then too, I would haul out as many bodies of my slain as practical so you would look less effective in the news reports.
