In May, I am planning to do 3 days of diving (two dives daily) plus one night dive around Dumaguete. I dived Coconut Point and some other places on Apo Island already.
I consider one day Sumilon, one day the Pier and Dauin.
What would you suggest in Dauin/Masaplod for good macro? How to organize diving at the Pier (restricted access)?
Would you recommend Apo Island again (e.g. Mamsa Point) or Siquijor? How about Liloan?
    All suggestions will be appreciated.
    Yours,
    Liberty

Hello Liberty . I guess that if you realy want to know , you better contact per Personal Message our member RHOODY !! , as he lives in DAUIN.
He is very much qualified to give all answers here and likely will be able even to acompany you . He knows literaly every single spot between Duma And Zambo , and more. Furthermore , if it has your interest , he is able to give you a good support when it comes to questions about the Marinelife and so on.
Love to see some pictures later on from you.
I will be able to meet you myself during that time as well if you need some outcome about certain matters.

    Hello Liberty

Rhoody is a divemaster of atlantishotel.com in Dauin, I know that coz my diving holidays are always at Atlantis, and I will be there again at may 7th
I know Rhoody since he came over from sabang about i think 3 years now.
I did many dives in the area of Dauin and my favorite is the pier of Ducomi , then the banka site it looks if there is nothing but it is amazing what is hiding in the sand and I love that macro place, but the banka is now almost gone after 7 years.
Massaplot is also nice and dont forget the diving on Apo, you can make a daytrip of 3 dives on Apo from atlantis.
Leaving at 0800 and you will be back at 1700 but is its not a dayly scedual.
And that is the same for ducomi so you have to verify that first.
Sometimes it is not allowed to dive there of the vessels on the pier.
The housereef of El dorad is also nice to make a dive and you will find the mandarin fisch on the housereef of Atlantis.

    Hi Mr. J diver,
    and Earl and Liberty,

Liberty contacted me already, but like you know Mr. Diver we are not a budget place... but some more general info about the diving here. Our nightdives (or Mandarindives) are just of the beach. the best time to catch the mandarin mating is some days before full-moon. The Ducomi Pier is open for diving but each DS has to apply for it 24 hrs in advanced and there are some performance requirements to the divers. We don't bring divers with poor bouyancy skills there, or those who grapping things and squeeze or break them.
At that time of the year you see a lot of "spring-time" activity under water.
There are plenty of froggys and Nudis around.
When going to Apo it comes down to the weather and wind conditions where to conduct a safe dive. The vis the last view weeks was not the best there (still 15-20m) but it will get better in the next days and weeks.
Diver, I did the bangka wreck 2 days ago, we can't call it anymore a wreck, cause there are only some planks and the propeller shaft left, but a lot of stuff around. The big seahorses in the shallow are gone, but we have 2 huge ones at the housereef. We dive the Car-wrecks now with an entry on a bouy on 20 meters and on that moring block is a family with 6 black ornate ghostpipes. next to it a flambouyant cuttlefish. Most of the times we run out of bottom time before we reach the cars....
Happy to provide more info about the local sites here...
see you in may Mr. Diver,

    happy Easter

    Rhoody

Thanks for all the additional information Rhoody. I have unlike you only seen mating in tank conditions . We (that is worldwide all involved including the famous Florida Institute for Technology Prof .Dr. Ralph Turingnan , he is PHIL)) still cannot be succesfull in breeding.. The new Invivo Technique which I will introduce hopefully at Silliman might bring out some new aspects. For those of the viewers that don,t know the Mandarin fish ( Synchiropus splendidus ) I have again attached a picture of it. There are two types of mandarin Fishes one comes strictly from Palawan but I wonder since Rhoody is more in the water then out of it whether he knows of the other one ( Spotted light green) being at "öur own " Negros as well.
Guess if members see this fish here , they all want to jump in the water.. Finding ... uhh the mandarinfish ??? That would be a change !!

Great shot, Earl, I actually think there are plenty of different coloration (is this a word???).
I just can tell my expierience with the mandarins.
Our's here are bigger and more active then those in Puerto Galera (I was there 3 years before i came to Duma).
There are tons of them in Palau and I was lucky to go there 3 years ago, they are really small but, hey... they must have some under-water viagra...
but this are the only 3 different I have seen.
I' look for a nice picture and hopefully can find some...
    cheers

    Rhoody

Well Rhoody ,again so much true. The madarin Fish varies from place to place. The most Pangit ( if you ever can call them that way) come from Sulawesi . The biggest are from Cebu area and Surigao.
Yep coloration / colorphase is the appropriate word. You are right there is a lot of variety within the species some are more colorfull and brighter in blue and / or green then others. You are a lucky devil having been able to dive at Palau. There is a lot to see what you can,t find here. Other places with endemic species are Fijii and Samoa / Vanawatu and ofcourse Guam and Okinawa
If you ever plan to go to Fijii you can contact Walth Smith there or Tony Nahacky .Tony has even a small angel named after him the Centropyge Nahackyi .I have attached for Rhoody a request whether the Spotted Mandarin ( Synchiropus picturatus) occurs in Negros waters as well. And a picture of the Centropyge Nahackyi.. Being honest as I am , pictures from the internet.
For Dane... the Madarinfish in Danish is called Florjfisk :D However . Shakespeare already said..

"What is in the name that we call a . as they all taste the same.." or something in that line.
    .
