I am thinking about breaking down and getting a bike for my asawa. Would be nice if I could get some frequent flier miles while I'm at it. Does anyone know if any of the Honda dealers around Duma take credit cards? Thanks

It's not legal but many places add 3 or 4 percent for the invoice to cover the credit card surcharge.
I tried to buy a pick up truck on my card in Canada years ago. They wouldn't go for it.

I believe it is perfectly "legal". However, it almost certainly violates the terms they signed with Visa/MasterCard to have the right to accept their cards. Those charges are not supposed to be passed on to the customer.

If someone were to report that to Visa or MasterCard they would likely lose their ability to accept payments by card. Merchants in Dumaguete may not care to lose that payment option right now but I have a feeling they will in the near future.

The fees topically ranges from 1.5-3%. If they charge more than that they are likely just scamming you. But it could be higher in the Philippines.

Been a while and not using that card anymore but if memory serves it was the bank exchange rate at the time... might depend on what card and US bank you use

I have used C.C.'s as far back as 1987. You need to ask first. Most will add on for the C.C. use. I have seen the add-ons range from 3% to 15% and 3% is twice what Visa charges them. Did I pay the 15%? HeII no. They escorted me to an ATM and I paid cash. I had one occasion where I forgot to ask and it cost my 5%. Some of them hide the mark-up by calling it a service charge, when in fact it is to cover the C.C. fees the card company charges them.
    Card users be ware.

I used my Philippines master card to pay a bill in Canada. The exchange rate was 5.5 percent.
