I had opportunity in 2014 to make casual acquaintance and exchange pleasantries with a Filipina teacher and her husband Sunny Delgado, a soccer coach at Foundation University, while we were waiting before some Branch Manager's desk to have our banking complaints resolved; but we lost touch since then. This morning, I was intrigued to chance upon bad news about the husband at Founder of children's home for girls arrested on child abuse charges

British news at Police arrest German who allegedly sought to abuse... | Daily Mail Online and German news at Warum sehe ich Bild.de nicht are saying he was arrested and is under police custody at Frankfurt. Yet Philippine news at German nahuli sa Leyte cybersex den raid is saying he was arrested and is under police custody in Southern Leyte. Here is a Tagalog-to-English translation (mine) of the GMA news article:

A German was arrested in Leyte during a raid conducted by authorities at a suspected cybersex den.

According to “First News” this Thursday morning, the raid was conducted at Baybay City and the operator of an alleged sex den known as Leef Roth, a German, was caught in the act.

The police will still review the CPU contents of the computers confiscated from inside the house that was raided in order to gather additional evidence.

The police already has custody of the German’s alleged live-in partner who is still being determined whether of minor age.

Roth could face possible complaint for violation of law concerning Online Sexual Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography.

I post to ask because it is not everyday one reads about a person getting arrested and placed under custody for the same reason, in two distant places at the same time.

Which one do you think is the fake news?

Pedophiles are arrested every single day all across the world. Just because you happen to read about two of them doesn't mean one is "fake news".

The cited newsreports all pertain to one and the same person.

That person's arrest and custody in two different, distant places - Frankfurt in Germany and Baybay City in Philippines - at the same time, is improbable and impossible.

The improbability and impossibility colors one of two news versions - EU or PH - with tinge of untruth.

    Untruthful reporting makes fake news.

Again, which one do you think is the fake news?

Well IF he is guilty I hope he was caught here in the Philippines. Maybe he will get a taste of his own medicine...

I hope so, too, although I would feel sorry for him. He and his wife seemed a pleasant couple.

If he is not guilty, I hope he gets freed in due time. Philippine police can detain an accused for only some hours, depending on nature of alleged crime, beyond which they are obligated to release the detained - if the local prosecutor cannot find adequate evidence to file a lawful charge.

I wish I had as much faith in the legal system here as you do, especially when many are locked up here and held in custody to what equates to years before they get their day in court, only to be cleared, freed, then have to pay large sums in unpaid Tourist extensions etc before they are allowed to leave the country and go back home to family.

This is just one case amongst the many here still pending, a long read but goes to show just what you may face living here; (Scroll to the very bottom to begin the story)
    Troy Birthisel

I have read many cases such as this online (Personal Blogs logging as to where they are at with their case) where someone has been arrested on trumped up charges (mind you there are always two sides to any story) and has been jailed for very long periods (sometimes for years) attempting to clear their name.

Yes; I will admit, after reading the experiences some have had here, I behave myself to the extent I live more like a hermit rarely mixing with others, but that is not saying I myself one day will not be staring down the bent route of Filipino Justice if I p*ss the wrong people off. If that day ever came, I do not really expect fair treatment or justice without a long and arduous fight ahead of me, albeit; minus the help of my country or embassy...

I also read the articles at Queensland Times ... How horrible!

If many foreigners indeed are similarly situated in Philippines, why isn't the UN and those international human rights organizations work on such cases instead of propagandizing about alleged EJKs?

I know for a fact how the local justice system can be flawed; and the local justice system in other countries could be flawed as well. Embassies therefore should provide free legal assistance services to its citizens just as Philippines locally provides free legal assistance services to its citizens thru the PAO. For one, there is this embassy that has a short list of local law firms accredited to provide legal services to its citizens and/or their interests in this country - am unsure though whether the costs come free or are Embassy-borne .

As far as I know very few if any Embassy will come and bail you out should you find yourself on the wrong side of the law here. It will, in the majority of cases, be up to you or your family back home to bear the costs of a legal trial etc...

The Queensland Times I have stopped following. It was my local Paper back home, but as with most media outlets it also has shifted to sensationalism and nonsense News Reporting like the Current Affair Programs on TV back in Australia. Many articles posted there are not very creditable anymore.

I am pretty sure it is not the job of the UN to sort out the legal tangles of foreigners who have adopted other countries as their home, and they would have little sway I feel here in the Philippines, in fact I think they would be promptly told where to get off before they set foot on the soil here. :bag:

Legal systems are flawed everywhere. I had three friends in Australia who were Senior Sergeants in my local Police Force. The law even went against them from time to time in what would be a trivial case for an ordinary citizen. Yet the dishonest b@st@rd Cops always seemed to get away with their BS. That seems to be the way it is. As a child, I was always told; "Tell the Truth, and the Truth shall set you Free". With age and experience, and watching the Law process back in Australia, I learnt that is far from the case. Living here I know d*mn well that ain't the case so I behave accordingly! The truth does not mean diddly squat when the chips are down!

What do they say in Japan about; "The Nail that sticks out gets hammered?" :whistling:

It's bad reporting, not fake news. The Onion is "fake news".

When I first got here back in 2000 an old friend of mine sudjested I retain a “good” Lawyer and keep him on retainer it coust me 10000p a year but if something was to ever happen I dile the number and hand the phone to the cops! If I am lucky I will get my phone back but at least the cops know I will not say a word till he comes to get me! Just a suggestion, I run a few businesses here in ANGELES so it makes things a lot easier for me to know the local cops and have them over for drinks and such but keep things to a low level has been working pretty good for me to!!! I don’t go out and run amuck, I enjoy time with my Son ridding buggies and staying out of TROUBLE!!! But I know of people that were locked up for 2 years and then never saw a judge, then one day poof you are free to go?!?!?!?!

And for the Embassy’s don’t wast your time they are not here for private matters and the UN doesn’t give two poops either, LOL
