    LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – The world’s first resort-airport terminal will soon rise in Cebu to further boost tourism receipts and economic development in the province.

    President Aquino led the groundbreaking rites for the planned Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 that is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2018.

    The first phase of the Terminal 2 development will cost P32 billion under the 25-year concession agreement with GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp.

    The Filipino company, a partnership between local firm Megawide Construction Corp. and Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure Ltd., earlier won the contract to rehabilitate and manage operations of the MCIA and took over management last November.

    The President, in his remarks, said the new airport terminal, located beside Terminal 1, aims to increase the passenger capacity of MCIA from 4.5 million to 12.5 million.
