    Cash remittances from overseas Filipinos coursed through banks increased in January, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando Tetangco said Monday.

    Cash remittance rose 0.5 percent from last year to $1.8 billion in January. The bulk of cash remittances came from the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Canada.

    Cash remittances from land-based workers totaled $1.4 billion and that from sea-based workers posted $0.5 billion.
