    SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER 5-A
    (7PM, 31 January 2014)

    “Basyang” has further accelerated and made landfall over Siargao Island.

    At 6:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “BASYANG” is in the vicinity of Siargao Island (9.9°N, 126.3°E).

    Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.

    Movement: Forecast to move West at 33 kph.

    Forecast Positions: Tropical Storm “BASYANG” is expected to be at 166 km Northeast of Puerto Princesa City by tomorrow afternoon and at 529 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City or outside the PAR by Sunday afternoon.

    PUBLIC STORM WARNING SIGNAL #2 (Winds of 61-100 kph is expected in atleast 24 hours)

    Iloilo, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, Guimaras, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran Is., Camotes Island, Camiguin, Dinagat Province, Surigao del Norte incl. Siargao Is., Northern Part of Surigao del Sur and Northern Part of Agusan del Norte.

    PUBLIC STORM WARNING SIGNAL #1(Winds of 30-60 kph is expected within the next 36 hours)

    Masbate, Palawan incl. Calamian Group of Islands,
    Northern Samar, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, rest of Agusan del Norte, rest of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Northern part of Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte & Zamboanga del Norte.

    • Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #2 are alerted against storm surges.
    • Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
    • Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon and the eastern and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon due to the surge of Northeast Monsoon.
    • The public and local DRRMCs concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today.
