I do not post this here to tell people how they should behave, as I cannot imagine many, if any, members of this forum would be behave in the ways listed (intentionally!).

But I read today with interest about 'Republic Act 11313 or Bawal Bastos Law', signed into law by President Duterte in July 2018.

Republic Act 11313 or the “Safe Streets and Public Spaces Act” seeks to prevent gender-based sexual harassment from occurring in streets, public places, online workplaces, and educational and training institutions.

The law states these crimes are “committed through any unwanted and uninvited sexual actions or remarks against any person regardless of the motive for committing such action or remarks.”

    Among these acts are:
    • cursing
    • wolf-whistling
    • catcalling
    • leering and intrusive gazing
    • taunting
    • unwanted invitations
    • misogynistic, transphobic, homophobic, and sexist slurs
    • persistent unwanted comments on one’s appearance
    • relentless requests for one’s personal details such as name, contact and social media details or destination
    • use of words, gestures or actions that ridicule on the basis of sex gender or sexual orientation, identity and/or expression.

I know that calling out lewd comments to passing females was almost a compulsory part of life for building workers a few years ago - glad to see that looked upon very differently these days.

However, I could see some newbies, seeking a gf here, to inadvertently break the section banning "relentless requests for one’s personal details such as name, contact and social media details or destination". In fact, as a male, I get it ALL the time from females (not really!).

And I am NOT going to mention the 'case' of a certain Alice (not warm) and a Mr R - and the famous 'cursing' comment!!!

    Is there a difference?

Bawal bastos everywhere! When working out in the gym there are people leering and gazing intrusively at me. When I walk in the street and everyone is leering and gazing intrusively at me. The park, the market, the mall, the beach, driving, bars, restaurants, everywhere there are other people there is constant leering and intrusive gazes.

This is something that gets under my skin that I get a lot: Please stop calling me "skinny". I'm a perfectly healthy weight (170lbs/77kg) and body fat (10-15%). Skinny has a negative connotation. Thin, slim, slender, lean, or fit have neutral or positive connotations. I don't go around saying "hey there Fatty McFatface, you sure are looking extra fat today" to anyone. Not sure why people feel it is appropriate to make such comments to me.

I get this out of the blue from locals (usually the older ones) and occasionally from foreigners. Only a handful hav ever been "relentless" about it...but I don't think their intentions were malicious.

Many of these things are just part of an average day for me. Chances of that changing any time soon because of this law are slim to none. Who is going to enforce it even if you did report it? I accepted it as a part of life as a foreigner in the Philippines long ago.

    I don't remember that. :hmmm:

Maybe a burka or hijab will make you more comfortable. A good dress maker can help you out.
Stay out of the park in Valencia. LOL

AsColdAsAlice (or similar name) from Dauin, and the "stop cursing" to you? I found it hilarious!

But on the issue of people making comments to others, I don't care a sh*t what people think of me because they don't occupy the space I live in and know nothing of my life - their opinion is worth zilch.

As I quoted once before, Bob Dylan wrote in 'To Ramona': "...there's no one to beat you, no one to defeat you 'cept the thoughts of yourself feeling bad"

The difference between 'wolf whistle' and 'cat-calling' is, I think, the former is formed by whistling without any words and the latter is saying things like "Hey, get your t*ts out". I always refuse.

Is this the SAME friend you often ask questions here for (like best s*x clubs)? He/she is SO lucky to have you as a friend and hope that one day will return the favour and ask on here things YOU want to know but prefer not to ask.

I think the fine (or prison) depends on the judge and it I am the judge I will give the friend of your friend ( ) LIFE.

It is sad, but my daughter was shamed in front of her entire 6th grade class about her weight, by her teacher (at SHS)!! She said to her "you need to reduce" in front of her classmates (my daughter is Fil/Am and her body shape was much different, and more developed, than her filipina classmates were . My daughter was extremely hurt by this from a teacher who should have been there to protect her from such comments. Needless to say, we had a big meeting with her teacher and the principal which resulted in the teacher crying and apologizing, and we also insisted she make a public apology in front of the class, which she did. I am glad that, perhaps, there might be something put into place to protect those who are belittled or taunted based on their looks or appearances.

Interesting comment. My Daughter is a very stout Gal and built like a brick S$%T House. When she was pestered about it I just told her that ( In life when your a Walnut, you need not listen to the Peanuts.) Go out into this World and become your own castle. No-one is number one, and last place "no one evens hears about:smile:............She is currently a Police Cap. inspector and is as strong willed as the many most willed I have known. (Hence the saying........ "Get a grip") ...best regards.

I find it most hilarious that, of all people, it's Duterte who gets to bring this kind of law to the Philippines...
