"So, what's the good news? It's hard to find anybody who believes the crisis will get that far," but the article also says "The euro itself,............ is a bloody doomsday machine."

People are fallible and greedy people are absolutely fallible! It's just a matter of time before the house of cards falls, and the world gets that much closer to a one world currency. O-|

One common currency for Europe was always going to be a disaster waiting to happen, and the European Common Market was always destined to become an unworkable self-serving beurocratic nightmare. The countries that already had a virtually worthless currency, Spain, Portugal, Eire, Italy, Greece, would naturally want to adopt the Euro in order to be propped up by the stonger nations. The European Union, for what it's worth, is a business, and any business that takes on a liability with no hope of it ever becoming an asset is committing commercial suicide. The EU is now a monolithic empire, which benefits few and is paid for by the complacent many. Europe was already united by Nato (Otan) and by trade agreements between countries, so the EU was never necessary. But like all empires, it will crumble in time, but the fall out will be paid for by all of us. The ripple effect will affect all other currencies including the US dollar.

As far as the UK is concerned, we already had a common market, we called it the Commonwealth, and successive administrations, which rarely act in the interest of the majority, sold them down the river. It does seem strange, and somewhat sad, that 70 years ago a guy with a weird haircut and a funny little moustache also had a dream of One Europe, and nations went to war in the name of freedom to prevent it, with a monumental and obscene loss of life. Now, we have the very thing that he wanted, and influential people have manipulated events to make it happen, lining their pockets and inflating their bank accounts in the process, while the majority were made to roll over in surrender without a shot being fired in anger. All those little white crosses.......the current events are an insult to their memory.

Now that the chickens are comming home to roost, maybe it's time for the silent majority to find their voice because it looks like we will all end up with a very large bill.

Sad but true. Praise yourself happy or lucky you are an UK resident, as I understood. Most likely, but not sure of course, too many politicians read your signature as bottom line in your posting than only for their personal benefits regardless what the majority of the population in many European countries didn't want i.c. One common currency for Europe.

Great post Broadside...don't know how this will play out in the end but getting somewhat encouraged (and just spent well into six-figures into beaten down stocks). Currently looks like the Germans are being dragged into supporting the Euro clownshow.....to what extent they can, willingly, is questionable but they will make an effort. But if they ultimately dummy spit and they go back to the DM - their export days are over. More likely though, China is going to get the hard word soon to significantly fund a European recovery...or else face stiff first-world tariffs that will destroy their industries. Not as gloomy for me as some others...I think the problems can be fixed.....over time...and with oversight and conviction which looks like gaining traction. You don't want this to get worse....think life in the Philippines without pensions and social security....Who would most governments cut loose first?

Message to all Europeans. Today, 1st July 2013, Croatia became the 28th member of the EU. Message to Greece, Italy, Portugal, Eire, Spain & Cyprus. Congratulations, you have a new member of your special club for bankrupt incompetent governments, which will instantly become an additional financial liability to the rest of us. O-|
