November 25 marks the official founding of Dumaguete as a city. Typically, this affair is called a fiesta, a Philippine cultural tradition defined as a local celebration or party which is characterized by a program in which lively folk dances and songs are performed by artists in full regalia. An assortment of native dishes including the delectable lechon (roasted pig) are prepared and offered by almost anyone who wishes to join in the festivities. Today, the fiesta has taken on a modern yet still historic twist. Households across the city prepare a feast. The City holds cultural shows, programs and activities such as the Miss Dumaguete Beauty Pageant. Finally, this occasion is capped by a city-wide parade featuring the beauty queens.
