I saw a youtube video where the fellow said that mosquitos were poor flyers and a brisk fan will prevent them from alighting on you in your sleep, sounds reasonable. Cornmeal for ants because it swells up in their belly and they explode. Cornstarch or babypowder for a line the ants won't cross. I will have to test all this thoroughly in about a month.:D

I am one of those that like the lizards but if you really want to keep them away just take two tablespoons of Tabasco sauce, mix it in a water bottle and spray it where you want them to stay away from.

Note: I'm not responsible if this attracts other pests. I have no idea if there are animals out there that enjoy the taste of Tabasco, I just know lizards hate it. (My gf loves the stuff, I better not find her crawling around your place! O--O)

Mosquitoes are attracted by Carbon Dioxide, what you exhale, so I suppose for some of us who exhale louder than others would be a target.

Fans do work, having lived amongst the Cane Fields where even in the Summer time I had to wear clothes that covered every part of me, it was a PITA trying to get any work done! I would reluctantly throw on long clothes in the heat of Summer, only to have the lil Black B******s bite thru the material, I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION!

I contracted Ross River Fever when I was 19 and it took me a good two plus years to get over the aches and pains and cold sweats and fevers. God Forbid what it would be like to contract Malaria or Dengue Fever!

Powder works very well for stopping Ants from crossing, we had a big problem with the small common Brown Ants and also Green Ants, the Brown Ants are well known for chewing the insulations off of the Electrical Wiring, Green Ants, well they are just plain nasty when they bite (or p*ss on you as I have been told) :(

I believe that mosquitos also see in the infrared and that if it's body temp outside, you are virtually invisible to them. When it's cool in the morning or cools off in the evening, they start "looking" for the buffet. If you are close I'm sure they can find your CO2 emissions also. When I lived on St. Thomas, a cloud of mosquitos would follow me into the van but as soon as I started it and turned on the airconditioning the mosquitos would fall dead. This would not work with Texas mosquitos who are used to a wider range of temperatures, probably makes them hungrier.

I bet that changes the first time a momma lizard lays her sticky eggs inside the filter of you coffee pot :-) They don't come out without ruining the filter holder.

    Thanks for the link.

Hmm Luckily for me I am more of the 'Instant Coffee' kind of Guy so everything is kept inside of Glass Jars :D lol

When I lived amongst the Cane fields for several years up the Coast, we had Mosquitoes 24/7 but come Sundown you could actually hear what we called "Coolum Swamp Greys" coming! They would come from the direction of Coolum Mountain on the Sunshine Coast and when you could hear a low droning/ humming noise, you knew they weren't far away. They were about 5 times bigger than the little Black ones and were hairy Grey, when they bit they burnt but it was the little ones that lived in the Cane that bit like Pitbull Terriers! I fell asleep on the concrete one night after fitting a motor to my car and woke up around 4 hours later, I couldn't make a fist my hands were so swollen and my face looked like I had just had a head on with a Train! However they track you, they are one creature designed by the Devil himself! From my understanding it was also the little Black one's which I caught Ross River Fever from, I gain great delight in watching Canefields burn knowing a Trillion of them just went up in smoke!

For skeeters, cut a pop bottle in half, put 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of water, and one small packet of yeast into the bottle and swirl a bit....put the top half back on so the bottle opening is pointing into the mixture.....it'll create carbon dioxide (and they love sugar, hence the cane swarms) and they'll fly straight into the bottle.

    Voila.

In some of the links I posted Jessica is one from an old guy who makes his Mosquito Traps using fresh fruits instead of the Yeast as the Yeast has a tendency to smelling bad whereas the other apparently has a nice fruity smell to it.

My luck, asawa would choose Durian Fruit to use in the Traps. hehe
