Filipino-American-Japanese Amity Shrine - A 3-sided pillar soars above a viewing deck on the Sagbang hilltop where Filipino, American, and Japanese soldiers clashed in a fierce encounter during WWII in Negros Oriental. Unveiled on April 2, 1977 by veterans and descendants of the war casualties, the shrine overlooks the panoramic sprawl of Dumaguete City, Sibulan and Bacong towns, and the neighboring islands of Cebu and Siquijor.

This sounds like a must see when you visit Negros Oriental. But let me be honest. The intention was noble, and it was a nice gesture. But today, 32 years later, this shrine needs a make over.:( I was told that this was the place where the last battle in Negros Oriental took place. This information may have been placed on the shrine or near it, 32 years ago, but today there is nothing there.

I can say that the landscape is kept up very nicely, and the panoramic view is nice as well, but for me it would have been a wasted trip, if I did not take the time to reflect on the battle that must have taken place and the many lives that was lost bringing peace to Negros Oriental.

Please enjoy these pictures, and if you decide to visit, please be mindful of bad roads when you leave the payment:eek:. It is a hard trip on a motorcycle, and if your vehicle have anything hanging low (transmission, oil pan, or body parts) it may be struck by a rock or two.

    Rev,

thanks for the pictures, great shots, the cloudy sky adds a lot drama to the pictures.

The Shrine by itself is like many historical sights in the Philippines, rather boring if not seen with the historical knowledge and background, another example is the Blood Compact in Bohol...
