Does anyone know what finally happened to this forum ? They were offline for a while but came back again. But now it seems they are gone for good. Kind of sad. It is was always a good source for varoius infos from Cebu.

The domain-name is for sale, anyone interested to take over can buy it for €1,350.
Assuming nobody's willing to put down around 80k peso to take over a forum that doesn't generate any income, it's gone forever.

Obviously though, anyone interested in setting up a new forum can do so without buying the domain. There are plenty options for free hosted forums, and registering your own domain name isn't all that expensive either.
Getting the word out to former members of LINC would probably be the biggest hurdle.

But all the old posts, pictures etc would be gone, right? I mean the forum domain name is just the name and not the content, correct?

That's the sad part. Some of us have been posting there for many years and I occasionally search back to stuff from the past. But it seems that is gone now.

Yes, if the former owner didn't have a locally stored backup, but relied on the hosting server then it's all gone.

It seems like these forums can take a lot of effort (moderation/software upgrades/answering questions/setting policy/fixing problem) for little pay and most are probably run by retired people, so the challenge is who takes over once the present owner decides it's time to retire again. Wrye was young and very involved in this forum back in the day, but no longer participates. What happens to DI if the person currently supporting this forum financially decides to no longer pay the operating expenses?

Rye pops in every couple weeks or so, gives a good read. He is serving his Country and I imagine he'll be back in Force soon enough. When something needs to be said I am confident he'll say it. As for changing hands, about everything in life does change hands. It's that for ever (not knowing) that keeps life interesting, Cheers!

Hmm..his avatar says back in Afghanistan. I guess he got an offer he couldn't refuse. I thought we were done that piece of dirt, but found this.

CIA personnel and possibly U.S.-funded military contractors and special operations forces will remain in Afghanistan.

Was that the one where the mod used a picture of Simon Cowell as his avatar?
