Hi, I'm somewhat of a Computer Guru, given i have a vast knowledge in anything relating to computers.

I created this thread in the hopes that people who seem to have these annoying little glitches with their PCs, don't end up getting their hard drives formatted by some shop who expects people to pay them P200+ just because they clicked one button.

Have a problem with your PC? Virus hit you or your PC seems to have slowed down due to the massive amount of software you installed? Whatever question you may have, I'll answer it to the best of my abilities.

So if you do post your question, please include your pc specs. The easiest way to find out is go to Run and type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes). And please be detailed about your problem.

Since this is a community, other people are welcomed to give their own personal solutions to the problem. But do please quote the poster's problem so we know what you're talking about.

    Start posting! :D

Note: If you want, you can contact me I'll personally fix your computer for P150. In some cases I may even format your entire system but ofcourse, I will backup all of your data and even your program settings. I also go through the trouble of re-installing all of your previous programs. My services also extends to tweaking your PC to your liking and can be reversible if you wish it so. Contact me at 09052809188.

    My desk top

It should ask me if I want to copy the music on the C.D. to iTunes when I put a C.D. in the optical drive. It dose not and it dose not even show the C.D. on the disk top as it should.
    What is going wrong here?

    Here is my computer specs:

Well there could be many reasons, let's start with the most common solution,
    • Is the CD readable? If you see a lot of scratches on the surface you may have a problem. Try to verify this problem through testing it with another PC. If the CD s heavily scratched you can easily solve the problem with a CD lens cleaner which you can find in most computer stores in Duma.
    • Does your CD/DVD work? Put in another disc and see if it appears on your desktop.
    • You might have your default action that OS X takes upon insertion of a CD set to "do nothing". Its possible that the Mac may decide to actually do nothing -- not even mount it. It's better to indicate that OS X should "start an application"
      and make that application Finder.

There could be other solutions but this is what i could draw up for now. Another quick solution is to reset your PRAM. But only do this as a last resort and after you have tried the other solutions first. Resetting the PRAM means to reset all of the custom settings that you may have set. If you want to find out what things gets affected by resetting the PRAM check out this link:
    What's stored in the PRAM

Read it carefully and if you do decide to reset it, you can find instructions how to do it here:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

Hope one of these things solves your problem, tell me if you were able to solve the problem k? Best regards,
    Marco Dizo

Hello there, sorry I can't give you any business (yet) but I do have a computer question. I have a powerful 2 PC desktop network here in Cyprus with twin monitors and all sorts of nerdy stuff. I do not intend hauling all that to the Philippines though, will instead buy a top end laptop. My question is - what brands are likely to have relatively local (i.e. Cebu/Manila) support in the event of a hardware failure? From a Spec and labs review point of view I have found a Sony VAIO that would be ideal, but no point in buying something here in Cyprus (or Dubai duty-free) if the RTB warranty would mean sending it back to Europe. Toshiba are another good brand too.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers
    Adrian

So hopefully, this should cover everything. As always, it's a good idea to ask what the warranty covers in any of the retailers. I mean questions like, for example, you're buying the laptop from a place other than the Philippines; Will the warranty be valid in the Philippines? If so, do they send my laptop overseas? Warranty are pretty slick 'cause they really try to get more money out of you there haha  You gotta ask these questions if you want a good and secure way to use your warranty.

    Cheers mate,
p.s: Why dont you bring your computer to philippines? Sounds like a nice set up you have there. Unless you're just visiting? And oh, what has Dubai duty free got to do with buying a laptop? Are you passing by Dubai? Haha, just had to ask 'cuz i'm from Dubai.

    Terrific PC dealer info

Well ... I am blown away by the help you've given me. Thanks VERY much indeed. I can already tell that my #1 choice, the Sony VAIO, is not a runner :( The solidstate dealer site says that Sony Philippines does not market those products there. A bummer, but essential to know that before purchasing.

I will check out the other brands, as there are a couple of other laptops that have done well in the reviews. I hadn't thought of buying there in the Philippines, I assumed it would be a hell of a lot more expensive and the choices would be limited. Is that not the case? I guess Cebu would be where to go for that. I want to avoid Manila for sure. I would need to do that when there in July and bring it back to Cyprus to load all my programs and data before returning end of August.

I mentioned Dubai because that is the best hub for getting to/from Cyprus. It is less than a year since I shipped all my worldly goods from the UK to Cyprus and I want to be very sure of my location and plans in the Philippines before repeating that performance! In any event I own my apartment here and it will cost nothing to just mothball it and use it occasionally. I want to retain a foothold in Europe in the short term anyway and Cyprus is now my tax base, a much better tax regime than the UK. Hence the need for the flexibility a laptop would provide, though I much prefer a desktop.

Once again - terrific help, EXACTLY what I need to make an informed choice. Let me know your thoughts on prices there?

    Cheers
    Adrian
