I have seen in the internet that handyman has opened a branch in Dumaguete. As they announce it can be including delivery. Does somebody know if they also supply construction materials like angle bars, deformed steel bars, cement, purlins .... ? Are their prizes competitive to the the stores in Dumaguete or even lower ?
If you compare their overall prices, then I would think that only wealthy long nosed foreigners could afford their construction materials... Try "City Hardware" they might have some at competitive prices...
YY Trading on Real Street corner of Pilnil Street has the majority of materials you post about, They offer free delivery on bulk orders. I have not found any issue, about long nose tax at all.
Thank's a lot for these advices. I was asking since we had 2 problems last time: - the needed angle bars width 6mm were mostly not available or very much rusted - or the ordered angle bar with width 5mm were delivered with a width of 4mm. But the driver insisted that its 5mm. So a dealer that can be trusted and who can deliver would be helpful.
We had a balcony railing welded in 12mm bars. When I picked it up it didn't feel as sturdy as the others, and I measured it to 10mm. I complained and got the response "Sir, the price of steel has gone up, so 12mm isn't thicker than that now"
yes same for me a hardware store across from rob mall tried to tell me 1/4 was 1/8, I insisted it was 1/8 and they showed me 1/16 that they insisted was 1/8, so I said give me your tape measure off the shelf and I showed them what 1/8 looks like. just got the stupid philippine blank look, the one they give when they have been caught out.
Almost all building materials made from iron are nowadays sub standard in strength and size, GI sheets, corrugated and plane are all much thinner than what the gauge would suggest with what they are sold for, with the same argument of the prices of the iron now being higher, one can not argue with that kind of logic...
Order the next size up ? The engineering requirements will not be impressed with the marketing logic, I'm sure.
I got some warnings before from some Filipinos that thinner steel might be supplied as purchased. I also had this problem with a delivery from Dumaguete. And the contributions in this forum showed that others had the same problem. This are apparently not isolated incidents, but a fraud.
