I'll be moving to Dauin in just over a month. I'm hoping to adopt a cat, or 2, or 3. I've already found a house in a quiet area with a big garden, perfect for a cat(s). I'd prefer to adopt than buy, just because I like to give a needy cat(s) a good home. I don't care about age, or sex. It can be an ugly b@st@rd or have three legs, but preferably not rabid Anyway, if anyone knows of a cat(s) that needs a good home, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you kindly.
Go steady!! We have now 3 cats all rescued found local to Dauin. Sadly 4th cat passed away just this week after 2 yrs. Now !! Cats in Philippines especially strays are generally unhealthy....blood line is not good too much interbreeding and hardly ever vacinated / neutered. Our recent loss was a kitten found starving etc thrown over our garden wall.....we got her all up and running, vacinated, neutered etc but she was not reliably healthy, vetinary costs here are not small, and medication / expertise not like UK/USA. Our other 3 cats seem to have worked out OK, are neutered / fixed and vacinated. However long term health cannot be guaranteed, we just pray they will be fine. Cat ownership here is a lottery.....GoodLuck! Once you fall in love with your cat(s) you could be in for some heartache....and expense. Seem to be reasonable choice of Dog Meds and feeds here but cats...NO! Filipino idea of cat ownership is somewhat different to Western style....Cats breed like crazy here, you'll soon be overun with them!!
Thanks for your information and advice. I intend to have it/ them neutered so my home doesn't become a menagerie! I had 3 cats in the UK and, for me, a home seems empty without a furry friend. Anyway, we'll see what happens. I have no doubt they'll be plenty of moggies around that need some help. I'm in touch with the wonderful lady who's trying to set up Care too. I don't mind a bit of expense. For sure it'll work out cheaper than having a Filipina wife or gf. Neither of which I have or particularly want lol.
I am a cat lover too, have some that I rescued as kittens. In all of my experience with cats, you don't adopt them, they adopt you. They want you to feel privileged to be able to pay the rent or mortgage and everything else they want in their lives.
2 OF MY Philippines-rescued cats came home to the US with me, along with my Philippines-rescued dog....
Pretty sure if you waited it out in Daro, a stray, hungry cat will wander your way sooner or later. Just be prepared to do some bit of running!
