Hello everyone. I am planning on going to Dumaguete sometime in the next couple of weeks for around 4-5 days. This will be my first time in this area.

I've done a search but did not really get the info I needed. It seems as though most folks recommend either the Palwa or Bethel (Bethel is out since they don't allow alcohol...I do like a SML or 2). What I am looking for is something centrally located with a safe in the room and internet connection.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has some ideas on what to do while I am in Dumaguete I am open to suggestions. I'm not looking for the go go type bars (I can visit AC if I want that), but some nice bars that serve cold beer and good music. I am not into diving or snorkeling, but am a die hard fisherman. So any thoughts on who to talk to about doing some fishing/dolphin watching would be great.

I apologize for all the questions, but after a few trips to AC and Subic, I would like to see more of the PI and a more relaxed environment.

    Thanks in advance,

    Shawn

LOL...no worries about being covered up in the go-go bar scene here...there is no go-go bar scene here!

The beer isn't always the coldest, but for live music I would say Hayahay is the place.

Yea, I kind of figured that it was more of a laid back area (which is why I want to visit). I will check out Hayahay.

    Thanks for the response!

Thanks for the advice, I did a few searches and could not find any contact info for Happy Fred's. Does anyone know of contact info the the owner? Or would it be better to just stop in Happy Fred's when I get there?

I've also been doing more research on hotels...does anyone have an opinion on the Honeycomb?

    Thanks again,

    Shawn

Honey Comb is ok depending on what room you get. At least they aren't as strict as Bethel. Location is good on the Blvd Near all the nightlife

you mean getting money from people sitting on a boat with fishing equipment? or fishing trips....

Hey, I organise dive-trips to APO, we go there and there is SCUBA gear on the boat... I guess this is now considered as a dive-trip....

But I know he has access to a nice Speedboat you can rent. Put some cold ones in a box with Ice,add some friends and cruise around to the surrounding Islands...

Bikerdave...do you have a recommendation for a good hotel, in a central location? I do not want to be in a hotel that is strict in anyway, I want a pleasant experience.

    Thanks!

I tried Honeycomb one time and I was not impressed at all.

It was same price at least as Bethel and Palwa and the rooms lacked a lot in comparisson - the rooms there were old and moldy where both Palwa and Bethel are clean and well maintained.

Palwa also has free wifi Internet if you need to be online, just make sure you mention it when booking, or else you might need to go to the hotspot areas to access it if your room is too far from the router.

Bethel and Palwa just do not like drinking in the hotel, I have come back well liquored up several times and never had a problem :-)

My conclusion is simple, I always stay in Palwa unless they are fully booked. I have always had very good service and they don't care that I come walking home sideways at 4am  Second choice would be Bethel, I have thought about trying out Florentina, it seems really nice, especially if you come in with your family, but I haven't stayed there yet so I can not really comment on the place yet.

    Thanks for the info Dane.

I went to the Florentina site and it looks pretty nice, apartment style and not expensive. The location seems to be okay also. Has anyone stayed there? Any additional info?

    I do appreciate everyone's assistance.

    Shawn
