Let's wait and see if they enforce THIS one! DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan 10 (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has called on public and private transport operators to test the roadworthiness of their vehicles before it is registered and renew their driver’s license. LTO district officer Roland Ramos said dilapidated and defective utility vehicles including motorcycles for hire will be impounded or banned from running their routes. This campaign is aimed at ensuring road worthiness of vehicles and safety of the riders which starts with motor vehicle inspection required for renewal or new registration, said Ramos. Transport vehicles without approved smoke emission test from an accredited center, mechanical defects, worn-out tires, faulty lights, batteries, brakes, rundown or poorly maintained vehicles are some of the common grounds for the LTO law enforcers to strictly impose the corresponding penal sanctions or bar the vehicles from running. The transport agency also checks the validity of the driver’s license aside from the vehicle’s standard road worthiness, according to Ramos. Ramos called on motorists to file their renewal of driver’s licenses and registration at the Robinsons Place, Dumaguete City only for faster transactions. New applicants must file at the LTO office located at the Capitol area. He said the renewal of driver’s licenses and registrations have become faster as the agency becomes certified with the International Organization for Standardization. He warned their clients not to entrust any LTO transactions with fixers because this has no bearing on the processing time of their licenses. (FCR/JCT-PIA 7, Negros Oriental) Larry
Yet another 10 minute wonder but it keeps the boys on enforcement, in work I guess. I wonder, Who enforces the enforcers?
It cannot be denied that Mr. Ramos, a very sympathic fellow (imho), has a rather good sense of humor. Acting that way will make the roads close to deserted, nevertheless would welcome the idea to be implemented better by yesterday than by tomorrow.
I always had a very good opinion of him as well. Once you get in his office he takes care of problems very logically and efficiently. I had one of those plate numbers that didn't have a plate available for almost a year, went to his office and in 5 minutes he had my problem taken care of. Spent another 5 talking to him about this and that, seemed like a good guy.
From Friday's Daily Star: "The district chief of the Land Transportation Office in Dumaguete, Roland Ramos, has been transferred to a smaller district office in Bohol, effective yesterday, on orders of Undersecretary Eduardo Oban Jr. of the DOTC Operations and Transportation Division. The transfer came a few days before the start of the Commission on Elections ban on the movement of government personnel on January 13. Ramos said the transfer is part of his career development, and accepted it as a challenge to share his expertise with another LTO district office. He said he does not believe that a local politician close to Malacañang could be responsible for his transfer, or that he was reassigned because he is supporting the reelection bid of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo in the May 13 polls. Ramos said he merely does his job and it does not matter to him who is the governor is. He will be replaced by Eugene Gador, LTO district chief of Carcar, Cebu."
Lol the Carcar LTO chief? Probably one of the nastiest 3rd world shitholes in the Visayas. I've been to nicer cities in Afghanistan. If his work there is any indication of what will happen in Duma we had all better start ordering our own personal breathing apparatus.
