This is an article, from what I am assuming, is a Filipino. While his reasons don't quite match mine, it's nice to read a positive article about Dumaguete. His reasons included: Its laid-back culture and lifestyle still makes it pretty difficult to adjust to the fast-paced and bustling life in Metro Manila. The cost of living is much lower! After all these years, Dumaguete still is the “City of Gentle People.” Its big sense of hospitality makes it easy for anyone, even those who weren’t born and raised the city, to call it 'home.' Many of these subjects have been looked at negatively lately on the forum but when you put them in perspective to how it is in other areas of the country, it really isn't that bad. (Being around the military, as a contractor, is anything but relaxing. I have my guard up more around the military than I do the locals....someone is always hating on contractors and looking for any reason they can to try to get us fired.) The bars. I miss drinking....and I miss drinking with friends and familiar faces. My girlfriend. Sucks being away. The friendly people. This isn't so much Dumaguete but the Philippines in general. Filipinos really are some of the most friendly people in the world. Not having to work. (Not that I am overloaded here, I'm just "here" 24/7.) I know there are several members here that are away from Dumaguete. What are some of the things you miss about "The City of Gentle People"?
Obviously the CPE of the missiles you are using is just too large! Just kidding. I am about to start wallpapering with parking tickets because I like the city so much.
When i'm not here, i think of daily swims, fresh mangoes, cheap avocados, cheap but good pizzas with a cold SanMig, laid-back lifestyle...
